Story:
Wario's greed gets the best of him again and he goes to an underground cavern to get his riches
Mario's Role:
I'm not sure he's even in the game. If he is, it's in the ending.
The gimmick:
Wario Land VB had a gimmick. Yes, I know, a Mario game and a cheap gimmick don't go together, but this one had it. It took place in 3D. Well, kind of. There are special blocks you can stand on to jump back into another plane. You then can jump back using similar blocks. This makes for some interesting puzzle elements (and a lot of places to get stuck), it's no more than a cheap 3D gimmick. But what a gimmick. Everyone loved the idea, and thought the game was pretty good. Then they saw it was a Virtual Boy game, and came back to reality. While it's good, it's is the only good one on the system, so no one seemed to care.
Enemies:
The weird Wario fare. Many of the same from SML3. As in SML3, they can't kill you, only their pointy things can.
Ending:
I have no idea. I've only played this during a rental. If anyone has actually sat through this whole game, mail me and tell me about it.
