Yoshi and Birdo’s Christmas Eve Adventure
System/Platform: Nintendo Gamecube
Graphics: 128 bits
GCN-GBA Link: No way Jose
Sound: The music will be a mix of Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Story.
Rating: E for everyone (but they do show blood)
One Christmas Eve, Yoshi, Birdo, Luigi, Mario, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi and a bunch of other boos, toads and koopas were at Princess Peach’s castle for a Christmas Party. After a long night of partying, Yoshi left. Soon after Yoshi left, Birdo left as well. Right after they left, Peach’s Castle started to rumble; it was Bowser and 6 of his koopalings! (Yes 6, because Morton wouldn’t shut up and they left him in the dungeon) Iggy took Luigi, Lemmy took Mario, Wendy took Daisy, Roy took Wario, Larry took Waluigi and Ludwig took Peach. Bowser stayed and took over Peach’s Castle. Yoshi and Birdo saw the whole thing happening outside, so now its up to Yoshi and Birdo to save the day! (Well actually its night but still!)
Getting the Game started
Place the disk into the Gamecube and turn the power on, after that you will see a Nintendo Logo that will say “YOSHI!” Then there will be a short movie on what happened, but you can just press start and skip it. Once the main screen comes up, you must first select which file you would like to start your game on. Once you write your file name, you can choose options to set different sound and color and a whole bunch of other stuff. Now click on the file you made a name for and begin the game!
Well you can’t pick just Yoshi or Birdo because you play as them both through the whole game, but don’t worry, there might be ONE secret character, maybe!
Yoshi: Yoshi is a pretty fast character, he has good jumps too. But Yoshi’s attack is pretty weak, he can ground pound you, eat you, and throw eggs. Yoshi can also sniff out treasure or any kind of item.
Birdo: Birdo is a stronger character in the game, she can spit eggs at you. She can also use her Bow-merang attach which allows her to throw her bow like a boomerang. She also has a move called Love glare, which stuns enemies for a few seconds. She can’t run as fast as Yoshi, but her jump is pretty close to his.
This game is like a 3-D Adventure version of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. You decide if you want Yoshi in the front and Birdo in the back, or Birdo in the front and Yoshi in the back. If Yoshi is in the front, Birdo will be a bit behind Yoshi. If Birdo is in front, Yoshi will be right behind her. It is also like Super Mario 64 because you are in Bowser’s Castle the whole time, jumping into walls to get to the levels.
Control Stick: To run or walk or better yet, move.
Start/Pause: To pause the game and bring up the pause menu. It can also be used to select something.

You can also buy moves with your coins at the “Skills Shop”
To activate items you must choose “items” from the pause screen.
Santa Hat: Makes your character look spiffy.
Reindeer Antlers: Makes your character look even spiffier.
Mushroom: Raises half of your health.
Super Mushroom: Raises all your health.
Star: Makes character invincible for a brief period of time.
Fire Flower: Makes your character breathe fire. (For best results, use on Birdo)
Super Mario Christmas Card: A card that gives you power, collect all 105 to unlock special moves.
Koopa Kid Key: Unlocks a door to a Koopalings room
Bowser’s Key: Unlocks the main door to Bowser’s Castle
Coin: Collect as many of these as you can. If you don’t, then you don’t get cool items!
There are only a few shops open on Christmas Eve in Bowser’s Castle.
Item Shop: Buy normal items here such as Stars, Mushrooms, Super Mushrooms and Fire Flowers.
Clothing Shop: Buy Santa Hats and Reindeer Antlers here, they have many different colors!
Skill Shop: Buy skills here. Most skills cost 50 to 100 coins.
Outside Peach’s Castle: You start off here at the beginning of the game, you can’t get inside until the end of the game though.
Bowser’s Castle: The main place in the game where your friends are being held captive. You can’t get there until you find Bowser’s Key.
Yoshi’s House: You can go here to play mini games. You unlock mini games every time you beat a boss.
Birdo’s House: Nothing to do here. Unless you have all the secret characters.
In the first level, you are outside of Peach’s castle. Your first mission is to find the key to Bowser’s Castle. (It’s in the moat)
Once you find the key, you are all set to play the game. I wish I could tell you more, but then it would ruin the whole game for you. So just sit tight until 11-18-05 when it comes out.
OK, I will admit that there are secret characters, but I won’t tell you how to get them…Yes I will.
Morton: He is your first Character to unlock. You must go into the dungeon and open up the door. Then Morton will thank you, and thank you, and thank you, and thank you. He will ask to join you and help you defeat his siblings. (Why? Because he was mad for being locked up in that dungeon for a month) Morton is slow, and he can’t jump to high, but he is good for fighting bosses. He can Jump and make Earthquakes by pressing A+B he can also use his Shell Spin by pressing B.
King Boo: You can unlock King Boo In the Ghost painting in Bowser’s Castle. You first must battle him, but then he tells you that he can’t be defeated without the Poltergust 3000, so you ask him to come help you defeat the Koopalings and Bowser. King Boo can fly so his speed and jumping are excellent. King Boo lacks in strength because the only things he can do are Lick by pressing B and turn invisible by pressing A+B. He is not good for fighting bosses, but for the normal levels he is excellent.
Koopa Bros.: Yes they are back. (Why on Christmas Eve?) You can find them in the Paper Painting. They are thinking of a plan to get revenge on Bowser for not making them strong enough to fight Mario. Birdo suggests that one of the Koopa Bros. goes with them so they can defeat Bowser and his Koopa Kids. (Besides Morton) You must pick which one you want to come, they all have the same abilities but whichever one you pick will change the story line.
Well that’s a wrap for my game; check your stores on November 18th to buy it. It is worth the money, and besides, every time you play it, the story will turn out different. See ya later!
