In the game mario has different types of caps:

Cap	Description of it.	How to get to the cap courses.
Wing Cap	Allows Mario to fly when he is launched  into the air.	After getting 10 stars look up at the sun in the castles main hallway.
Metal Cap	Makes mario Invincible and he can run  on water.	In the Hazy Maze Cave ride Dory to the big steel door.
Vanish Cap	Makes mario invisube and he can walk through walls	Drain the moat then go outside and enter the now open grate.

Item	Description of it.	How to get it.
Big Key	Allows Mario unlock the lock doors around the castle	You receive one after you beat Bowser. There are 2 in the game.
Shiny Shell	A Koopa shell in which Mario can Ride all over the course making him totally invulnerable.	You can get it from inside and exclamation mark block or after jumping on a Koopa Troopa.
Heart	Refills Marios power meter.	They are scattered along courses.
1up Mushroom	Gives Mario an extra life	They are scattered along courses.
