Princess Peach Toadstool was sitting on her pink heart-shaped bed, in her oversized (even for a princess) room. She was lost in thought, thinking of what to do on such a dull Saturday afternoon. Hmm...what to do, what to do...... She stole a glance at the calendar, and gasped in shock. "Oh no! No, no no no! This can NOT be! This is impossible!" she shrieked in terror. All of a sudden, Toadsworth barged through the door.
"What in blazes is going on in here, princess?" He asserted with a very concerned, yet annoyed look on his face. "I mean, um, (ahem) is there a problem, my dear?"
Princess Peach's face was buried in her hands. "The Princess Coronation is only ONE day away and I'm simply not prepared! It's horrible! Those Coronations—" The princess wailed before Toadsworth cut her off.
"Determine wether you can remain the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, I know, I know," Toadsworth finished. In truth, Toadsworth was horrified that the princess wasn't prepared. The mere thought of her not being princess anymore made him shudder with fear.
"What am I to do, Toadsworth?" Peach asked, lifting her head from her hands revealing her sky blue eyes filled with tears.
"Look on the bright side, princess," Toadworth reassured her, "Your politeness is better than ever, so that's one down—"
"And still three to go!" Peach cried, and cried.
"And those three are appearance, kindness, and... oh Goomba's ears, what was it again?? Oh boy, I seem to have forgotten... do you know, princess??" Toadsworth tried his hardest to cheer Peach up, but his memory stepped in the way.
"It's... how you rule your kingdom!" Peach realized she did know what she was doing; she began to brighten up. "Thank you, Toadsworth! I haven't a clue how, but you relieved my fears! For now. Thank you again."
"If you're positively sure, princess." Toadsworth left to continue preparing for the Coronation.
Maybe I'll invite Mario and Luigi to the Coronation... it would be the first one they've been to. Oh, what excitement! The princess could barely imagine what it would be like. She dialed the phone as quick as her fingers could move. "Hello? Yes, this is Peach. Hello, Mario. How are you? That's splendid! I was wondering... could you and Luigi come to the Coronation being held tomorrow at 6:15 p.m.? Oh, I'll hold. Mario? Yes? Oh, thank you, thank you, I couldn't tell you how happy I am! I'll see you then! Good-bye!" Peach hung up the phone.
"With that, Mushroom Kingdom, I have something very special to add. Would Mario Mario and Luigi Mario please step forward?" Mario and Luigi were shocked. They followed the orders, and kneeled before Princess Peach, removing their hats. She borrowed a wand from Kamek, a special spectator in the audience.
"Mario, Luigi, you have saved me countless times, I am nearly positive it was more than twenty," She began, and far from done. "I'm too grateful to even put into words. To add, at the twentieth time you saved me, I should have done this." She rose the wand, and placed on Mario's right shoulder, then rose it and moved it to the left. She did the same with Luigi. "I now name you the official knights, or guards, of, well, myself, Princess Peach Toadstool." She was almost finished. "Finally, I must say again... thank you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart." She finished with a smile. Peach turned to face the crowd, and to her surprise the Mushroom and Sarasaland Kingdoms were in an uproar of applause. Peach politely curtsied, and returned to her podium. "Mushroom Kingdom, I wish you all a pleasant evening. Thank you."
The judges were finished; everyone waited with bated breath. Would Peach remain the princess of Mushroom Kingdom and Daisy of Sarasaland? Only time would tell. Mario and Luigi were frozen with anxiety. They were rooting for Peach and Daisy on the inside, because if they said anything, they were afraid they'd get kicked out. Toadette handed Toadsworth the results. He thanked her, then opened the envelope.
Everyone was invited to the after party except Judge Guy— he had a meeting of seriousness. Everyone else could make it. Daisy was pretty busy talking to Peach about... well... Mario and Luigi.
The outside was even better than the inside. Each of the round tables was draped with a baby pink tablecloth and crowned a gorgeous hourglass vase blooming with white and red roses, purple pansies, and sunflowers. The patio was paved with grey concrete, surrounded by grass with a deep forest green shade. The dusk was cut back by the lights that hung overhead. Boy, did they ever shine— if you ever saw fireworks, that's what it looked like. There was gentle music accompanied by some upbeat music. Mario was with Peach (obviously) and Luigi and Daisy were talking casually. They were both very shy, and neither of them knew the other one liked them. It was quite amusing, really. They'd talk, blush, talk, blush, laugh, smile, BLUSH. Those kids will never need makeup, by Toad.
It turned out even Bowser was in on the shindig, and everyone else was in on it, too. Of course, Luigi and Daisy found out and were quite angry. Uh, so angry they ran after everyone, Fire Flowers in hand. No one minded until they started using the Fire Flowers. Then, everything changed from a friendly chase, to an 'I HATE YOU! YOU CAN RUN FASTER THAN THAT!' chase. Well, Daisy and Luigi soon got over that, and returned to their regular state. Peach and Mario lived happily ever after, and Luigi and Daisy, well, some things never change. No, just kidding, they're still in a half-shy state. Some things take a really long time to change. Oh well!
THE END
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Goombas and Koopas, I have your results!" Toadsworth began a long, long, speech lasting thirty minutes. Peach and Daisy reminded him he needed to say the results before the crowd started a riot. "Oh, right, thank you." Toadsworth replied. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, now your results!" The crowd erupted in cheers. "Princess Daisy is...a 8.9 in kindness, a 9.0 in how to rule your Kingdom, 7.9 in politeness, and a 9.4 in appearance. Overall...she's staying!!! Yahoo!" Toadsworth reported, the crowd deep in cheers and applause.
"Settle, Settle." Toadsworth fluttered his hands and the crowd settled instantly. "And now, for the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach!" The crowd erupted once again. A couple minutes later it died down. "A 9.5 in kindness, a 9.8 in How to rule the Kingdom, a 9.9 in politeness, and finally, an outstanding 10.0 in appearance. Overall...A shoo-IN! This shoe isn't too tight after all! Ho ha ha!" (crickets chrip) "Oh, that was no good." Well, Peach is STAYING!!" Toadsworth clapped and the crowd went wild with every cheer imaginable! The Mario Bros. rose to their feet and applauded the loudest, of course. The truth was told, Peach and Daisy were staying, and only the after party was left.
"Oh my Toad, Peach, you like Mario Mario?" Daisy asked with raised eyebrows.
"Well, uh, no, well, kinda, maybe, okay fine YES. I do like him. If only I could get to know if he likes me too..." Peach admitted with a confused look on her face.
"But there IS! I've got a plan!!!" Daisy pulled Peach into a closet. "Here's the plan. I'll talk to Luigi, being he had a thing for me, and I'll ask if Mario likes you. He'll answer me, I'll answer you, and YOU'LL kiss Mario, your dream boy, and here goes that happily ever after junk," Daisy scowled at the thought of how Peach always gets a happily ever after.
"What an awesome plan! Uh, Daisy, why are you frowning?" Peach wondered aloud.
"Uhh, no reason! It's just... nothing, nothing, I'll go see Luigi about a man named Mario. See ya later!" Daisy lied about the whole "nothing" deal. Anyway, she headed off to meet with Luigi.
"Hey Luigi," Daisy greeted as she pulled up to his side, "how are you?"
"I'm... fine... and you...?" Luigi asked slowly, wondering what in the world was going on.
"I'm FAN-tastic! Hey, I... have to ask you something.." Daisy said shyly to give the talk the whole, 'I like you, Luigi' effect.
"Oh, go ahead, ask. I'll answer anything, anything at all, I'm the answering machine, the guru for questions, the—" Luigi stammered.
"It's about Mario, you goof," Daisy laughed, and Luigi blushed and joined her meekly. "Anyway, does he like Peach?"
"Uh, if you PROMISE not to tell anyone, I'll tell you. OK?" Luigi asserted.
"OK, I...(cough)don't(cough) promise." Daisy felt guilty, but she did cough out "don't."
"Alright, he does, ok? You heard it, he likes Peach," Luigi stated, but before Daisy walked away, he added, "Oh, you may want to get something or that cough, Daisy," With that said, Daisy left to tell an impatient Peach about Mario.
"I have excellent news, Peach! Mario's crazy about you," Daisy stated. Peach looked so happy that words couldn't describe her face. "So? Why are you standing around? Go tell him you love him too!" She urged.
"How do I know you're not lying, Daisy?" Peach asked suspiciously.
"Fine, whatever, I cross my heart and hope to die, stick a fire flower in my eye," Daisy wasn't done. "Let it burn, right on my eye, only let that happen if I lie," She was nearly done. "If you doubt me, have no fear, then stick a Goomba in my ear, let that Goomba stomp me out, only let that happen if you have doubt," Daisy went even farther with another clever rhyme. "If you still don't trust me now, put a Koopa in my mouth. Let that koopa bang around, if you still don't trust me now. And—" Daisy began AGAIN.
"I get it! I get it, you're telling the truth. I'll go tell him. YEESH!" Peach mumbled something to herself as she walked off.
"That gets rid of her," Daisy stated. "Operation 'Get Peach and Mario Together at the After Party' completed," Luigi overheard her rambling, and stepped up to her.
"Operation? What is going on? I demand answers! Why aren't you coughing you were here the whole time! Huh??" Luigi stammered yet again.
"I'll explain everything to you, ok?" Daisy asked politely.
"Yea, that would help a little," Luigi replied, still looking confused.
"Okay, here it goes. Peach is in love with your big brother Mario, and she needed to know if he liked her too. So, I told Peach that I'd ask you if Mario likes her, you'd answer me, I'd answer her, and she'd kiss Mario her dream boy, because she ALWAYS gets the stupid happily ever after junk, and what am I left with? Nothing, I'm flat broke. Boy, if I ever lived like her, I bet I'd get anything, and every stupid happily ever after I ever wanted," Daisy mumbled with crossed arms and a furrowed brow.
"I get the plan, but why are you so jealous of Peach? She's just as good as you, and personally, I think you're...better," Luigi murmured shyly, finally admitting how he felt.
"Oh, wow, Luigi, you're so sweet! Do you really mean that? I mean, (ahem.) Sorry I'm dumping all this on you, you don't deserve to suffer what I do," Daisy apologized, blushing.
"It's alright. If I started rambling all about my brother, I'd feel the same way. So, you still need to tell me why you're jealous of Peach," Luigi reminded her.
"Oh, right, well," Daisy began, "it's just that Peach gets anything and everything she ever wants. The perfect guy for her, the gift of a near perfect score for the Coronation, and..." Daisy couldn't say anything more, her tears wouldn't let her.
"Oh, come on, you're jealous of those tiny things?" Luigi asked, "Don't cry, please, that's nothing at all. You have nothing to worry about," Luigi reassured her, he hugged her. Daisy began to feel better.
"Thanks, Luigi, you're so sweet. I have a question though," Daisy started, "Why are you jealous of Mario?"
"Huh? No way, pssh, I'm not jealous of Mario, how bogus would that be? Pssh, I'm not jealous, no way.....pssh!" Luigi lied.
"Be honest, now, Luigi, why?" Daisy asserted once more, bringing him on a walk and talk outside castle grounds.
"Okay, okay, I'm a little jealous of Mario. I mean, come on, if you give that guy any more credit, I think I'll die. Even when I do all the work, it's always," Luigi mocked in a girl..ish..tone, "thank you MARIO!! Luigi... who's he? AARGH!!" Luigi became so furious he couldn't speak.
"Well, well, well, look who's jealous now. Luigi, you're jealous about less things than I am. Calm down, and I'll give you a little credit," Daisy kissed him on the cheek, obviously causing him to blush. "Well, personally, I feel you're better than Mario." Daisy realized she may have just found her man.
"Heh heh, th-thanks, Daisy," Luigi felt sorry for Daisy, listening to his anger issues.
"Let's head back to the castle, I think they're moving the party outside." Daisy suggested, and Luigi agreed. "I'm sure no one missed us!"
Meanwhile, back with Peach and Mario....
"Hey Mario," Peach greeted stepping up to his side. "How have you been?"
"I'm fine, could be better. You?" Mario replied glumly.
"I'm great, but is something wrong?" Peach asked, looking quite concerned.
"It really doesn't matter much, but this person I like may not like me back, and that person is standing very close to me right now," Mario stated.
"Well, does this help you decide?" Peach kissed Mario not on the right cheek, not the nose, and NO not the forehead. ...Huh? I'm GETTING there!! Holy Goomba! His right cheek, which for some reason meant she liked him a whole lot. Don't ask me, I'm just the narrator. Anyway, Luigi and Daisy just reached the castle door.
"Well, this is it," Daisy looked up at the colossal brown wood door. It had the letters MP engraved in gold at the top, standing for Mushroom Palace. Luigi and Daisy pushed the door open, and just then Peach released her lips, and Mario nodded. Then, hearing the door, they took five steps away from one another, Mario in fight position, Peach in hiding. Everyone was relieved that it was only Luigi and Daisy, even though half didn't know who in the name of Toad they were. After that, Toadsworth stepped up to his tiny podium.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Toads and Toadettes." He started off. "I now announce this party to continue being held in the garden!" He announced. Everyone moved outdoors to countinue the celebration until dawn.
"Well, it's a nice night, huh?" Daisy asked, smiling meekly.
"Y-yeah, I..I guess it is...." Luigi returned, returning the smile, just as meekly.
"So, anything happening soon?" Daisy tried making more conversation.
"Hmm, not really, just Mario and I hanging out until Peach gets kidnapped, then I'm home...BY MYSELF while Mario goes out to save the princess because I'm not good enough for him!" Luigi furrowed his brow, he got frustrated once again.
"Luigi... I... I never knew that you... oh wow... I-I'm so sorry. And I though I was lonely in my tower... Luigi!" Daisy broke out in tears and threw her arms around Luigi in sorrow. Realizing what she just did, she backed off immediately. "Uh, th-this never uh, happened, it's only between you and me, got it?" Daisy asked nervously. Luigi didn't seem to mind, but he looked a little confused and taken back. So, Daisy explained.
"Well, I never get kidnapped, so I'm all alone in my tower. Peach always gets kidnapped, so you're always alone. I just felt bad because I'm only alone, and you're alone while someone else is out getting credit. I-I'm sorry, I think I-I over-reacted. I'm sorry, Luigi," Daisy apologized, and started to walk off.
"It's okay, it's fine, Daisy." Luigi grabbed Daisy's arm. "You can't leave. Not until we're dismissed to go home, I won't let you leave. Not now," Luigi finished his speech.
"You're right. You're always so kind and noble...I'd bet a million dollars your heart is a gem." Daisy complimented.
"I'm not kind, you're the one who's kind. Look at you, you're the most beautiful human alive, betting one million dollars my heart is a gem. If mine is a gem, yours is a diamond with not a single flaw." Luigi complimented back.
"Look at you, Mr. Compliment, you're calling me beautiful when Princess Peach is ten feet away from us." Daisy mentioned.
"My big brother may think she's pretty, but I think you're the pretty one," Luigi's face turned beet red as he admitted everything, although Daisy thought it was all a joke.
"Wow, Luigi, I never knew you liked me this much..." Daisy's stomach was in knots doing backflips. "I just need to say, gosh this is embarrassing, I need to say...I like you too." Daisy's face was as red as a tomato. Daisy sighed. "Well, that settles that. How about you?" Daisy asked, feeling relieved.
"Yeah, I feel pretty good too. Would you like to dance?" Luigi held out his hand, and Daisy happily took it. They danced and danced, and Mario and Peach, they didn't even notice, well, yea they did, but it's more fun to make them seem like the bad guys right? OK, fine. They noticed, all right, and they were smiling.
"Operation 'Lie to Get Daisy and Luigi Together'...complete." The pair whispered in unison, giving each other a high five, celebrating the accomplishment they were trying to complete years upon years ago. The years of relaxation have finally begun.
