SMBHQ MAILBAG

FOR THE DATE OF
May 24, 2009

Enjoy the new mailbag. Just a reminder that if you want these to happen more regularly, send in questions.

In SMB, I saved the princess...now when I turn on the game to play. Level 1 has harder villains. How do I get it to go back the way it was before I saved the princess? My youngest son is having trouble playing now...and when I get to level 3-1 I cannot get all the extra men on the final steps.

We downloaded the game and are playing in on a Wii.

Help.

Geri
Sean Kelly Unless the Wii version is like Super Mario Allstar, where you can select the world in the save file, the only solution is to erase the file and start anew.

Kyle Orland Hit the home button on your Wii remote to bring up the Home menu. Click "Reset." NEXT!

GameGuru Go into the Wii Options Menu, then to Data Management, then to Save Data, and finally there should be the Wii Option. Click it and inside should be a file for Super Mario Bros. Erase that. By deleting it, you return the easier enemies to fight.

Super Toad I never played it on Wii, but it must have some kind of save file you can erase.

kapil samvedi

Sean Kelly Sounds more like Donkey Kong Country than Mario. Don't remember jumping coins in either.

Kyle Orland You're thinknig ofthe 1989 hit "Coin Jumper," well known for it enlarged coins, which can be used as platforms for "coin jumping."

Oh, no, wait, I'm making that up and I have no idea what you're talking about.Sorry.

Jay Resop --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

PenguinMan --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

GameGuru Jumping coins that get bigger? I want to say... Wario Land.

Super Toad It could be Donkey Kong Country.

You guys ever notice how Nintendo seems to give silly names to the newer games released in the US while the UK has more-serious titles? Example:

Wario Land: Shake It! (US)
Wario Land: The Shake Dimension (UK)

Yoshi Topsy-Turvy (US)
Yoshi's Universal Gravitation (UK)

Rob from MI

Sean Kelly I'm more akin to Star Fox 64 being called Lylat Wars.

Kyle Orland I don't really see how "The Shake Dimension" is less silly than "Shake It!," although Universal Gravitation does have a certain Newtonian pride to it.

Fun fact: Did you know that, in Europe, Super Mario 64 is actually called "Super Mario and the Philosopher's Stone"? It's true! Look it up!

Jay Resop --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

PenguinMan --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

GameGuru UK Titles are direct translations of the Japanese titles, while US Titles are localized like the first Harry Potter book was. Sorceror's Stone, my butt!

Super Toad The US titles may be silly, but at least they don't sound like really bad science fiction movies.

How do you keep mario up in the air when he is raccoon mario? I downloaded the original super mario bros game on my Wii.

Tmumper

Sean Kelly I hope you are talking about SMB3. In that case it is simply case of running until you hear a whistle and repeatedly press the jump button.

Kyle Orland WRONG! You downloaded Super Mario Bros. THREE. At least I hope you did, because Racoon Mario in another Mario game would just be worrying.

Anyway, you run (holding down 1) until your P meter gets filled up, then jump and keep hitting the jump button (2). Doesn't anyone read the manual anymore?

Jay Resop --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

PenguinMan --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

GameGuru Well, there's your problem. Racoon Mario only appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3! Your powerup is in another castle!

Super Toad Press the same button you use to jump while in the air to flap the tail. You can only fly until your power runs out.

Goodafternoon,

Actually i am looking for his bed a mario bed sheet to sleep under.

I don't of they sell those kind of things

Kind regards

Kim Wesker

Sean Kelly (I wish people will learn to proofread e-mails)

Anyhoo, I would add a link to a certain popular auction site, but you probably know where to go.

Kyle Orland Here.

Editor's Note: This auction is now ended, though something similar may show up.

Jay Resop --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

PenguinMan --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

GameGuru Umm, Ebay? Well, you could sew it yourself...

Super Toad I don't know either. Do you always talk as if there was already a conversation going on?

Sean Kelly That's nice.

Kyle Orland Um... all is forgiven? Truth be told, I had forgotten all about you and your complaints, but I'm glad to hear a change of heart.

Jay Resop --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

PenguinMan --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

GameGuru ... Who are you?

Super Toad You can't take back a "goodbye forever."
