SMBHQ MAILBAG

FOR THE DATE OF
November 2, 2008

This has definitely been our slowest mailbag year. Maybe we should rethink some things.

On the sms game page, you put that fludd said "I hope I was of assistance." He really said "Mario...was I... of...assistance?". Fludd powers down after that. You said that he gets back up. He doesn't.

Peter

Sean Kelly Considering the fact that I haven't yet personally beat the game (my brother has), I can't be sure which one is right. I need to remake that page someday anyway.

Kyle Orland I don't have a greta memory for this stuff, but that sounds about right.

PenguinMan You know, somehow I can't muster up the whatever to care much. Probably because I don't administer that part of the site. Or it could be this cold. Either or.

GameGuru Well, technically, yes... but it is pulled out by one of the Toads and is alive.

Super Toad I refuse to believe this. What's next, are you going to claim SMB2 wasn't an original game? Luigi wasn't in SM64? George Washington didn't actually chop down the cherry tree?

While I know you may not be taking any more people for the mailbag, I'd like to know: Is there an age limit to being able to answer in the mailbag? If there is, what is it?

Ben Rivers

Sean Kelly Considering the fact that in 3 1/2 years I'll be 30, I don't think there is any upward age limit. The other way around depends on the person.

Kyle Orland The age where you learn how to read and write?

PenguinMan All you need is money. We all paid for our spots (except for the head honchos of course). And I'll sell my spot for 500,000. No, I will not tell you the currency. Just keep sending different ones until you guess correctly.

GameGuru None I heard of.

Super Toad The limit is 142. Now that you know, however, you can easily lie about your age. There is only one way to be sure. We're going to have to chop off your arm and count the rings.

Do you think they will make any more Luigi Games?

Alex V

Sean Kelly Who knows? I do have to go on record that I enjoyed Luigi's Mansion much more than Super Mario Sunshine.

Kyle Orland After Luigi's Mansion became somewhat of a joke around the GameCube launch, my guess would be "not any time soon."

PenguinMan But Luigi is in plenty of games. I don't see the problem here. Unless you want him in Street Fighter IV or something.

GameGuru Well, Luigi's Mansion sold, didn't it?

Super Toad Yes.

I was only trying to help guys honestly. Basssicaly everything i said was true. you never really update this site No its not every week cause ya know hat it took you 3 weeks just to come up with another mailbag. Look forget everything i said cause apparently you guys dont want any advice. and btw at the end of my last letter i said PS i really dont want to offend you guys but i guess "accidentaly" it got cut off. Your website stinks idc what u say u NEVER update this site. NEVER. although id like to apologize to one of the stafff members due to he was out of town which i had no idea about. listen you dont need my approval on ANYTHING im not in charge of this site so do whatever you guys want to this site. itll only leave to you self destruction. im afraid you just lost yet agin another fan from this site. My other friends gave up on you saying theyll remain a boring site but i didnt give up which is why i sent u that email so i could get you make you guys work harder but now i guess the old awesome Super Mario bros Headquarters has died. You just lost another fan. So Goodbye SMBHQ. Goodbye forever

-Mr Nintendo

Sean Kelly I could go on a rant about how I try really hard to keep SMBHQ updated, but you are probably not going to listen to me anyway. Oh, and there hasn't been many mailbags because there is a bit of a question shortage.

Kyle Orland Harsh! Look, I'm proud of what I created here with SMBHQ, and even though I'm working on somewhat more lucrative game-related writing now, I don't think it takes away from the community that has been set up here. Updates might not come as often as you;d like, but really that should be a reason _FOR_ you to start your own site, not as a discouraging reason not to.

I'm serious. If you're not happy with SMBHQ, start your own site. This isn't meant as a taunt, it's meant as advice. Instead of wasting breath trying to make us "work harder," do some work yourself and create the Mario site you always dreamed of.

P.S: Ya know i started my site because of you guys. You inspred me to make my own Mario site but now i look back saying what the heck was i thinking?

PenguinMan I... I don't know. I'm speechless. Whatever will we do without the support of the illustrious Mr. Nintendo? You might as well sell off all the office supplies, guys. Time to call it a night.

GameGuru Might I suggest you go visit my subsite Super Smash Stadium? We've been updating regularly and we are a part of SMBHQ.

Super Toad Think about all the work you could have put into your own site instead of that rant. But I guess we weren't enough of an inspration for you. It's all our fault! Goodbye Mr. Nintendo....Goodbye....FOREVER!

any idea if new super mario brothers will be available for the wii?

Theresa Broussard

Sean Kelly Not unless there is a way to play DS games on the Wii (remember the GBA player?)

Kyle Orland You mean New Super Mario Bros., the DS game? My guess is... no.

PenguinMan Why? It's cheaper to buy that game and a DS than it is to buy a Wii. Probably a whole lot easier to find too. Unless you're talking about the rare Chupacabra DS.

GameGuru No. We don't even have a New Super Mario Bros. 2 yet.

Super Toad It will not.

Hey guys!

According to Yoshi's Island and SMA3, the Mario brothers are brought to the Mario residence at the same time. But apparently, Luigi is the younger brother. How is this possible?

John

Sean Kelly We can talk Mario continuity errors all day.

Kyle Orland Well, Mario got dropped on Yoshi's Island and had to spend a lot of time working with Yoshi to get through all the hazards there. When he got through, the Stork came by with the newly born, slightly younger Luigi and delivered them together. That makes sense, right?

PenguinMan A question as old as time itself, or at least the internet. If only every question could be answered, maybe we wouldn't be talking about this right now. I'm rather fond of that idea.

GameGuru Mario was born before Luigi. That makes him the older brother, even if it is just a second older. Twins aren't born at the same time. They are just born within the same pregnancy.

Super Toad The stork picked up Mario before Luigi.

To who may concern,
How come no one from Nintendo Mario ever thought about having a Mario Theme Park? The idea is simple. It should be located say...Orlando, FL or to be affiliated with Legoland? or any other place.

With Mario so popular, a theme park should be an awesome idea.

-Erick

Sean Kelly If there is such a park (which would need major $$$), it would probably be located closer to Seattle than Orlando.

Kyle Orland I'm sure it's been thought of, but it's not as simple as just snapping your fingers. A theme park is a massive investment. I think a general Nintendo theme park would do betterthan one focused solely on Mario, but I'd love to see it happen. Related: http://gonintendo.com/?p=915

PenguinMan Nintendo current money-printing operation COULD be used to fund a theme park, but I think they're going for a loftier goal. Namely, a theme park... on the moon.

GameGuru I'm guessing Nintendo back then didn't have the money at the time. Oddly, Nintendo does have theme parks, but they are Pokemon based. I personally would LOVE to see a World of Nintendo theme park, though.

Super Toad Nintendo has already built Wii-sport themed parks all over the country. They're aimed at the casual and non-gamer audience, so Mario isn't prominently featured in any of them.

Hi,

I was hoping you would be able to tell me if there is such a thing as Donkey Kong feet slippers? Also if they do exist, where can I find some? Thanks so much.

Melissa

Sean Kelly This would get the generic product answer, however since she said Donkey Kong, I would like to emphasize that ever since Nintendo turned DK into an independant franchise back in 1994, I like to keep that series separate from SMBHQ unless Mario appears in the game.

Kyle Orland I've never seen 'em.

PenguinMan Donkey Kong doesn't like having people stealing his slippers. Maybe you should just ask him where he buys them in that size. It would probably go over a LOT easier. Plus they wouldn't smell like the more unsavory parts of the jungle.

GameGuru The Internet says no.

Super Toad I wasn't able to find any slippers, but I did find this. The smaller one looks like its head may be about the right size to be gloriously mounted upon ordinary slippers. Happy hunting.

Hey, everyone. I've got a couple of questions about the new Nintendo DSi.

#1: Will the upcoming "Mario and Luigi 3" be exclusive to the DSi?

#2: Will the DSi be able to wirelessly connect to current DS models? No one else is talking about it, so I thought I'd ask you.

Thanks!

Caleb

Sean Kelly I really don't like the DSi. It's just the same old DS, expect with bells and whistles added and GBA (and Guitar Hero) compatablity removed.

I'm predicting that this will be as niche as the Game Boy Micro (remember the very tiny GBA?)

Kyle Orland Good questions. I'm pretty sure that the internal game-playing hardware of the Dsi is the same as the original DS, so M&L3 should work on any DS. As for wireless connections, I'd say the same thing... it should work across models. While I can't find a definitve answer on either of these, I can't see why it wouldn't work that way.

PenguinMan The answer to #1 is No. It will be exclusive to the Virtual Boy. The answer to #2 is also No. It can only wirelessly connect with dolphins, which consider a whole lot better. Finally, I will have a Flipper of my own! Another childhood dream fulfilled. Thank you, Nintendo. Thank you.

GameGuru #1: Dunno.
#2: I figure it would, yes.

Super Toad Unfortunately, I don't have a couple of answers.
