SMBHQ MAILBAG

FOR THE DATE OF
March 24, 2008
Six Questions, Six Responders

Hello....

I am an artist and have been asked to create a project for a young boy for his birthday. He is absolutely smitten with Mario and has all the games, etc. The project I am working on needs material and I have been searching for Mario themed fabric. Having search far and wide...even Licensed Fabrics available...I have not seen any fabric with the Mario theme.

If there is Mario fabric available...please advise where it can be purchased by providing a telephone number and/or a link for online search.

You will make this little boy very happy on his birthday.

Thanks for your time and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Risa Williams

Sean Kelly I'm don't think there is bulk fabric for you to make things, but you may find some cloth products on eBay.

Jay Resop Ya know, I acutally remember seeing a Mario-themed fabric in a local arts and crafts store way back when. It's out of buisness now. Crazy. You'd've thunk there'd be more of a market for Mario-themed fabrics.-jay

PenguinMan I really, really want to know when this mailbag became a respository for "Where can I find Mario-themed Item X?" questions? C'mon Sean, you should make this another rule or something. Although, this might cut our questions in half... Maybe you're onto something.

GameGuru You know for a big Nintendo release with Mario in it, there is a notorious lack of Smash Bros. questions here! Hmm, Mario fabric... Couldn't you like look at a sprite of Mario from SMB1 or 2 or 3 or World and then quilt that into a pattern? I've seen dozens of quilts with Mario themes, but no general Mario fabric. It was always based on the sprites from the old NES and SNES games.

Super Toad It would be a little pricey, but you can cut up a bunch of these.

Crazyswordsman Funny answer: Do NOT buy licensed Mario fabrics. They are made overseas in deplorable sweatshops where little boys work as wage slaves. All they want is a nice meal. You will make them very happy on their birthdays if you don't support those businesses.

Serious answer: I think you can find them in a bay right outside the letter "E." -CSM

Hi. I was wondering how you all think about Luigi being playable in Super Mario Galaxy (AKA, his first role in a non-remake SM64 type game).

P.S. I can tell Jay's gonna like it, but he's not gonna like that you have to get all the stars as Mario first.

P.S.S. I hope I didn't just spoil it for those who didn't play the game (both in the mailbag crew and those reading it on the site). If I did, sorry!

Joshua Thomas

Sean Kelly Me like Luigi. He is my character of choice all my Mario Party/Sports games.

Jay Resop WHAT??? LUIGI IS PLAYABLE IN GALAXY??? OMG!!! SPOILER!!! NOOOOOOoooo....! *Jumps out of a window*-jay

PenguinMan Thanks a lot JERK. Now the surprise and the experience of playing this otherwise masterpiece has been completely shot, thanks to YOUR thoughtless outburst. I hope you're proud of yourself.

GameGuru But it's not Luigi, it's some evil clone of Luigi, because the Playable Luigi and the Non-Playable Luigi meet up with each other in Super Mario Galaxy!

Super Toad Who cares what games Luigi is in? Toad has only been playable in one major game!

P.S. That game was SMB2, and it was a long time ago.

P.S.S. I didn't count racing/sport/party games.

P.S.S.S I have more postscripts than you. Hah!

Crazyswordsman Needs to be a two player game. That's part of the magic of Luigi. That and he's a better jumper. So I guess you get half of Luigi. But that's certainly better than nothing. -CSM

Hey Smbhq whats up? I just have a quick question. Have u heard of Super Mario bros Z? Its a Great Internet Show The Storys Based on Mario SonIc Shadow and Luigi trying to get all 7 chaos emeralds and well.....wait I guess I should Post the first six (and Only) episodes out so far. episode 7 is in the making
Editors Note: After seeing questionable content after clicking a link in these videos, I decided not to include the YouTube links. You can search for the series yourself at your own discretion.

Hope you guys enjoy! Its really good I cant wait for episode 7

-Mr Nintendo

Sean Kelly Interesting. Just avoid the website at all costs.

Jay Resop No way I'm clicking those links. I bet they lead to a virus. Or a hacker. Or a virus hacker. Or a hacking virus. You can't fool me!-jay

PenguinMan Yep. Those are some Youtube links, alright.

GameGuru Isn't that where Yoshi's Super Dragon Final Smash comes from? Just for that, it kicks.

Super Toad Nope, never heard of it.

Crazyswordsman NO. MORE. MARIO VS. SONIC. CROSSOVERS. PLEASE. THEY KILL MY EARS.

(That and I'm studying for an exam and packing up to go on holiday as I'm writing this so I don't have time to sit through 7 episodes of this). Maybe next time. -CSM

I have a question for Jay. When did you first use the "Kill Bill" joke? I was curious because I first saw it when Bill said "Jay! You used this joke already! It isn't funny!" or something along those lines. ANYway, I was curious when you first used it is all. Thanks!

~Marissa

Sean Kelly I think it was first used in the movie parody short (correct me if I'm wrong)

Jay Resop Dang, what's with all of the questions for me. Haven't you all picked up on the fact that I never answer questions seriously??? Anyway, even if I wanted to answer this question seriously, I have no clue what the answer is. You're right, but I have no idea when I used that joke the first time. Jumanji!!!-jay

PenguinMan It's really hard to tell when Jay has started a particular joke, since he reuses them so many times. It was obviously after the movie came out, since Jay doesn't have an original bone in his body either.

GameGuru ... It's a Jay Resop Question!

Super Toad October 10, 1999. Jay's joke was actually the inspiration behind the similarly named movie.

Crazyswordsman Hell, Jay INVENTED killing Bill. Or at least it was Jay Respo. -CSM

Hello, I'm a HUGE fan of Super Mario and I have two questions. 1. I was wondering in the next Super Smash Bros. what Mario charaters whould you like to see? 2. Where do you guys think where Mario Kart 64 action figures would be?

Super Mario Guy0021

Sean Kelly 1. I would jump for joy if they included Wart
2. Goto the most linked site in the mailbag

Jay Resop Bill. Fred. Donez. See the last NC Short that I made.-jay

PenguinMan I would like to see Random SMBHQ Mailbag Question Writer so I can blow his/her sorry butt to the moon with Snake, along with all their mindless questions. As for your second question, you'd find them in a furnace, because that's where I put them.

GameGuru Oh my, a question for my department... Okay, I see Geno, Bowser Jr, and maybe Dixie Kong or K. Rool. I don't think we will see someone like Mona or the Baby Mario Bros, even though the later makes more sense in the Smash Bros. canon where everyone is a trophy, than in the Mario canon.

As for the second question, Ebay.

Super Toad I was hoping for something like this.

Of course, the mere addition of Toad would have been nice.

Crazyswordsman MAJOR SPOILERS IN THIS RESPONSE. If you CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH, I suggest scrolling waaaaay down so this doesn't catch your eye.

Considering the game already has all the characters revealed I wish I could give a decent answer. If there's gonna be a Smash Bros. IV (which I hope there will be since this is one of the few franchises that just keeps improving, but I doubt it since Masahiro Sakurai is now a freelance designer (he's one of my favs, up there with Miyamoto, Sakaguchi, and the best of all time, Itoi-san). But if there IS, we NEED to see more Lemmy Koopa and Iggy Koopa. As for your second question (I REALLY wish I had time to make another EBay comix). -CSM

Hey SMBHQ Ive warped to world 8 in Super Mario bros but I cant get past World 8 Ive just got up to world 8-3 but I rarley get past 8-1 nd Barley get to 8-2 Do you guys know any tricks to get past them easy? thx

- Mr Nintendo

Sean Kelly World 8 is not that hard after you played it a million times.

Jay Resop Um...er...um...P-wing.-jay

PenguinMan Y'know, if you spent LESS time writing to us and more time practicing the level, you might have beaten it by now! Alternatively, you can use a Game Genie. They're pretty handy. Too bad it's still impossible to beat Battletoads using one.

Editor's Note: Yes PM, I have a lot of time on my hands.

GameGuru Protip: Don't die.

You just got to run and/or jump over the Hammer Bros and Bullet Bills and avoid falling, but once you get to Level 8-4, you save the princess and beat the game!

Super Toad Instead of warping to the end, actually play the game and build some skill.

Crazyswordsman Elaborate. By world 8-1 do you mean the actual one or the first ship? Also, there's no world 8-3 unless you count the mini-fortress. Those levels are HARD, and 8-1 IS the hardest. If you want to have an easier time I suggest going to world 8 the hard way (Ie going through all the levels in the game, INCLUDING world 7, which we all hate (except for the groovy music). -CSM
Editor's Note: I think the question was about the FIRST SMB.
