SMBHQ MAILBAG

FOR THE DATE OF
February 15, 2007

Today's guest responder is GameGuru from SSS.

hello i dont meen to be mean but he seven part story is of mario is only up to wario land 2 that like 6 years ago that game came out so can you pleases up date it pleases respond if your not going to do it because i could think up some ideas for the story

Edwintrex330
Sean Kelly That story is before my time.

Kyle Orland Yeah, this story is getting kind of outdated at this point. Unofrtunately, I have neither the time nor the inclination to continue it. Maybe we'll solicit submissions for an updated story section soon.

Jay Resop Hahaha. "meen to be mean." That question made me el-oh-el.-jay

PenguinMan Since this question doesn't pertain to me, I just want to take this opportunity to tell the other responders to follow Jay's and my leads and just give nonsensical answers. It's so much more enjoyable to read later.

MetalMan This is a very, very large site. It competes with the game pages and everything else for updates. However, if you think you can update it yourself, check out the "help wanted" section--remembering we have no interest in speculative fan theories; the section should only be based on the video game canon.

Super Toad If you're going to complain about updates you could at least use punctuation in your message.

PeachFan I don't think whoever's responsible has had time to update it. If it were my job... well, I've been too distracted by the glories of Tetris DS and Mario 64 DS to do anything important. Mmmm, DS goodness...

GameGuru Well, if we added the newer Mario games, it wouldn't be a seven-part story anymore, now would it?

When will The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 be released on DVD?

amy dittman
Sean Kelly We just so happened to have recieved an e-mail last week from Brian Ward of Shout Factory, stating that the SMB3 DVD set will be coming out late spring to early summer. We will provide more details as they become available.

Kyle Orland No firm date from what I've heard. I don't even know who owns the rights, to tell the truth. Considering that the SMB Super Show is doing decently on DVD, I don't think it's out of the question. When is anyone's guess.

Jay Resop They'll probably only make it if sales of the SMB Super Show on DVD are good. So really, it is up to YOU and YOU alone to go out and buy EVERY single SMB Super Show DVD that you can find. QUICK! HURRY! Mario is counting on you!!!-jay

PenguinMan Whenever Bowser stops hoarding the master copies of the disc. I'm surprised Mario hasn't rescued them yet. Maybe Mario WANTS the SMB3 cartoon to never see the light of day...

MetalMan Beats me. They seem to release these things at random, perhaps when whoever drew them is hard up for money.

Super Toad I haven't heard anything about this series coming to DVD, as nice as that would be.

PeachFan I hope it's soon. I've already bought all of the Super Show, I need more Mario goodies to add to my collection.

GameGuru We don't know... If I had to guess, it'd be some time after the release of Captain N and the version of Sonic the Hedgehog from Saturday Morning. Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 WILL be released as Super Mario Bros. Super Show is Shout Factory's top seller, I just don't know when.

this website rules, but there are rarely ever any updates. I realize that you've got better things to do than sit at your computer all day and update the site, but it's just that there's never much new.

Christopher Vouis

Sean Kelly Yeah, I don have better things to do that sit at the computer all day: sleep! :P

Kyle Orland Guilty as charged.

Jay Resop Haha. Sorry. For some reason I just thought it was funny that people have been complaining about the lack of updates on SMBHQ for, like, 3 years now, and here we still are.

Seriously, though, what more do you people want from us? Can't we live??? Why won't you let us LIVE?!?!? PLEASE! FOR THE LOVE OF WALUIGI, LET US LIVE!!!!!-jay

PenguinMan Whenever Bowser stops hoarding the Kyle Orland (or in this case Joystiq). I'm surprised Mario hasn't rescued him yet. Maybe Mario WANTS Kyle Orland to never see the light of day...

MetalMan That's Sean's field. My section was religiously updated, and continues to be where it was moved... but of course I have nothing better to do than sit on the computer all day long. Jay... eh. He's busy with College. So is Sean. We need some bored High Schoolers to update SMBHQ.

Super Toad I'm glad you choose to write this pointless email instead of sending us something to update.

PeachFan Hey, some of us have new Nintendo DSs that beg for our attention and prevent us from updating. I mean, someone's gotta help Princess Peach save Mario, right? And who better than me, Peachfan? ^_^

GameGuru What is Super Smash Stadium?! Part of TMK?! SSS updates once a month, unless life gets in the way of one of our... uhh, six? writers.

Do you have an idea as to when "Super Mario Galaxy" comes out for the Wii? Thanks.

Caleb
Sean Kelly Sometime this year.

Kyle Orland It was originally hinted at for a Spring release, but indication are looking like Holiday '07 now.

Jay Resop Tomorrow. Seriously. Go tomorrow to your local game emporium and ask for Super Mario Galaxy. If the local game clerk says that it's not out yet, HE'S LYING! Don't believe him! He is either an evil space zombie or perhaps a mutant vampire. In this case, go to some other local game emporium and ask again. Hopefully there are some non-evil-space-zombie-mutant-vampires in your area.-jay

PenguinMan Whenever Bowser stops hoarding the master copy of the disc. I'm surprised Mario hasn't rescued it yet. Maybe Mario WANTS SMG to never see the light of day...

MetalMan According to my sources, it will be released between March and December of 2007... it will be released this year, at least.

Super Toad Nintendo has only said 2007, but my best guess is this summer.

PeachFan All I've heard is that the date keeps getting pushed back further and further. It doesn't matter too much to me, I know I'm not getting a Wii anytime soon... hell, I was lucky I got my DS.

(Peachfan has a one track mind.)

GameGuru I know a littler bit more about Super Mario Galaxy than of the second question's DVD release... Sometime in 2007. Hmm...

Dear smbhq 1 year ago I sent fan art to this sight. One was one where Mario was looking at his 1980 self (blocky version.) and another one where Mario Luigi were flying across the mushroom kingdom. One was called 20 years apart and the other Super Mario Bros. I would like to know what happened. Please reply

Mr Nintendo

Sean Kelly I don't know. PenguinMan just told me he is stepping down as editor, so we are going to start to look for a more capable guy soon (no offence PM).

Kyle Orland My best guess is that we didn't post it.

Jay Resop It sounds like we need to fire Penguin Man. PM! How could you do this??? I trusted you! Mr. Nintendo trusted you!!! You have lied to us all of these years! *sobs uncontrollably*-jay

PenguinMan Whenever Bowser stops hoarding the master copies of the drawings. I'm surprised Mario hasn't rescued them yet. Maybe Mario WANTS the drawings to never see the light of day...

MetalMan Stuff gets... lost. I wouldn't be surprised if it somehow was sent to the wrong address. Make sure to send it again to be sure... though the person responsible for that section might have an answer.

Super Toad You caught us. Instead of posting the image we decided to print black market Mario posters from it.

PeachFan I'm not the fanart person, I just answer the mail and think about updating Comics and Books. I really should do that sometime soon...

GameGuru You know if Mega Man, Simon Belmont, and Sonic were in Brawl, that'd be awesome. Uhh, what?

I have lymphoma and it has been suggested that I visualize something going through my system devouring the cancer cells. Many folks have used Pac Man, but I thought the little plumbers could go through my lymph system and rheam out the nasty goombas. Since I came up with this thought, I had been encouraging Mario and Luigi and my son made me a poster for Mario being dispatched from Rome (possibly with the Pope's blessing) since they are Italian after all.

What I really need is both of them going through some kind of pipes , chasing the cancerous cells with some plumbing tools - maybe draino??. don't know where to start to create this kind of graphic. Can you help? Do you know someonw who would want to help a cancer patient with this project?

thanks,

cathi

Sean Kelly Hmmmm....I don't know what to say. Maybe you should try talking to Nintendo themselves.

Kyle Orland That's a truly interesting and inspiring story you've got there. Any graphic designers out there willnig to help Cathi out? Send a note to SMBHQmail@gmail.com. We'll publish the best responses in a future mailbag.

Jay Resop Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. And here I was telling jokes for all of these questions. I didn't expect a serious one. I hope things improve for you. And I don't have a good answer to this question, but hopefully someone here does. Take care.-jay

PenguinMan Look out guys, here comes a SERIOUS ANSWER!

Sad to say I'm really bad at drawing/graphic design, but I really hope things turn out OK. My little brother had Hodgkin's Lymphoma as well and it was really hard on him. Fortunately, he's in remission, and I hope it goes well for you too.

MetalMan Hmmm... my Grandfather also has lymphoma, but it appears treatable. If you want to make a picture involving Mario and such you'd probably have to look for screenshots from his games online and use Paint (or an equivalent graphics program) to cut Mario out of the picture and paste into one of your own, possibly also obtaining relevant images of Draino and such. Hope you get better!

Super Toad If cancerous cells look like evil mushrooms some of the underground levels of SMB might work. Best of luck.

PeachFan Hmm. I do have some Photoshop skills... Maybe I could help?

GameGuru Good analogy! A Goomba DOES look kinda like that! However, I'd hate to think what pipes Mario & Luigi are cleaning inside your body. Eww! ><

I just wanted to know what shy guys look like under their masks? I would really like to know.

Randy Ransford
Sean Kelly I remember in Luigi's Mansion, you could take the masks off of Shy Guy Ghosts with the vacuum. Then they just looked like ghosts.

Kyle Orland You and me both, brother. You and me both.

Jay Resop Sheesh, I'm not in the mood for telling jokes now... Wow. I'm just depressed. I mean, things like this make me realize that no matter how hard life is for me, it could always be worse, and there are always people suffering a lot more. People like the one who wrote the last question are much braver than I am.-jay

PenguinMan You want the truth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

MetalMan Beats me, however if Meta Knight is any indication, they probably have beady little eyes and a rather expressionless face. (Or they could be really ugly. Who knows? This is a mystery for the Mysteries section!)

Super Toad --INSERT RESPONSE HERE--

PeachFan All we know is anyone who has seen a sky guy without its mask has been blinded.

GameGuru This may be shocking, but under that mask...

Shyguys HAVE NO face!!!

Hi,
Do you happen to know where I can find the soundtrack to Wario World? Unfortunately, as you know, it was never made into an official release, and I was wondering if you knew whether somebody out there has ripped it or not. Please let me know about this at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

-Mike
Sean Kelly In the past, Nintendo released game soundtracks for the Nintendo Power catalogue. If it never turned out there, you probably would have to resort to...GULP...file sharing networks!

Kyle Orland The internet is a wide and vast place. That said, I don't think anyone out on the internet has bothered to rip a soundtrack for Wario World. Why not buy some equipment and do it yourself? Be a trailblazer!

Jay Resop I think you're out of luck, chief.-jay

PenguinMan Whenever Bowser stops hoarding the master copy of the disc. I'm surprised Wario hasn't rescued it yet. Maybe Wario WANTS the disc to never see the light of day...

MetalMan There are a number of sources I know of, but they aren't specifically something I could link here. Well. That's up to Sean. There is recorded audio of it on the web, though.

Super Toad I did a quick search but didn't come up with anything.

PeachFan I honestly don't know if anyone's ripped it... but if anyone knows if Tetris DS's soundtrack was ripped or exists somehow, let me know.

GameGuru I can't help you even if I wanted to!

hi there i wondered if you can help we have a snes and wanting yoshis island i was wondering if you know where i could get this game or if you have the game if so can i pay by postal order for it. and also can you also tell me where the warps are on the lost levels on the all stars game thanks very much.

BirdsaA

Sean Kelly Click here.

Kyle Orland Is your shift key broken? How about the caps lock? I see a period at the end there, so I know that key is working. USE IT!

Anyhoo, blah blah eBay blah blah Guides section.

Jay Resop I'd say the e-word, but someone else will. So there's no point.-jay

PenguinMan Whenever Bowser stops hoarding the remaining copies of the game. I'm surprised Yoshi hasn't rescued them yet. Maybe Yoshi WANTS the games to never see the light of day...

MetalMan dunno where the warps are, but something tells me you should look on

EBAY

for that game.

Super Toad In level 3-1 jump over the flag pole to reach a warp pipe. You may be surprised where it takes you.

PeachFan Well, it might be easier to get a GBA and get Yoshi's Island for that. It's gone on sale since Yoshi's Island DS has been released (that's how I got my GBA version- yay sales!), so you might want to try that.

And hahahahah, Lost Levels. I'm afraid of that game. Give me Super Mario 2 USA any day. I could help with warp zones for that, if you gave me enough time to remember where the warp vases are.

GameGuru I think we got some copies of that in our store! Also, Warp Zones are in Levels 1-2, 3-1, 5-1, 5-2, 8-1, A-2, A-3, and B-4. Two of them are TRAPS, and I'll let you find out which ones! Also, you will never be able to reach World 9 if you use a Warp Zone, even if it's a trap!

I've always wanted a Mario timeline. I could never find one. So I made one. It's got a lot of Mario Games, but I know I'm missing a few, it also has some knock offs at the end. I thought since ya'll are Mario, that ya'll could add the rest and post it on your website. Kolten Burkes
Sean Kelly It's.....alright. I personally happy with the, more complete, timelines I put together for the era pages.

Kyle Orland Very nicely done. You seem to have left off Mario Sunshine and the recently released Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2, March of the Minis. From earlier games, there are cameos like NES Open golf and Mario is Missing, but I think you've hit all the major points. Good job.

Jay Resop Yeah, that looks cool. We should totally steal that and put it on the site. Sean, make it so.-jay

PenguinMan I honestly don't know what to say. People may think that I've been a little lazy this mailbag, but hey, that's Senioritis for you. Now if you'll excuse me I have some Prinnies that need throwing.

MetalMan Sean! Make that too! And some coffee! All these questions make me thirsty!

Super Toad Officer: SM64 Mario, what part of turning don't you understand?
Goomba: Hmm... They all look like the man who killed my father...

PeachFan I think that's rather nifty!

Maybe I should do something like that for Peach... hmm.... ^_^

GameGuru Those aren't knock-offs at the end. Those were game made with Nintendo's permission, as was Hotel Mario and the edutainment Mario games, though Nintendo games NOT exclusive to Nintendo platforms always suck. I'm looking at you, Mario is Missing!
