tom hills
Sean Kelly: Woah! Please run spellcheck before sending your e-mails. Congratulations on finding the cup and mug and stuff.
Kyle Orland: What? I looked over the Mario Cups page and then tried really hard to figure out what you're talking about in this message, but it just aint working for me.
Jay Resop: hey wow that was cool thanks for the story that was pretty neat i felt that it was my job as the webmaster of a mario bros site to tell you how cool your e-mail was and how awesome it is that you have a mug like that with mario i just love mario in fact i play mario games every day i also have this totally wicked mario site called neglected mario characters which features neglected mario characters and has my comics which are called neglected mario character comics i think you should go visit this site it's a lot of fun if i say so myself which isn't saying too much since i'm the webmaster of the site but i think that you would enjoy it anyway so go there if you have the free time unless you are super busy because you are fighting some super evil dragon from some far off planet who's threatening to destroy the world unless you eat an entire box of sugar cubes so you better go do that first since that sounds kinda important oh by the way i have this awesome story i wanted to share with you about my dog you see one day i was walking my dog and i was abducted by aliens you see but they really weren't aliens they were really just government workers from the civilian conservation corps and they were all like, we want to eat your brains, and i was all like, no way dudes, i need that for my ride home, and they were all, come on, please, and i was all, can i play your super nintendo and then we all played super mario bros. 2 isn't that a cool story ok thanks for listening i have to go now and eat some sugar cubes-jay
PenguinMan: It'd be a lot more useful if we didn't need a
translator to understand what you were trying to say.
That is English, right?
EAM: Ok.
Luigi128: Periods, commas, and caps are your friend. And, uh,
thanks for the info.
Beth Blakeslee: Uhh... Super Mario egg cup? I've heard of (and owned) some pretty
outrageous Mario stuff, but I've never heard of an egg cup... And I
don't exactly get what you're trying to say about your Mario mugs...
oh well. I tried.
So I recently took out the old skool NES and tried to beat SMB3. But i got stuck on the first castle on world seven. you know, the one where you can make all the bricks turn to coins and get a ton of extra men. there are no bad guys or anything.. its like a ghost town or something. I cant figure out how to beat it though because ive gone through all the pipes an doors i know of and cant get to the last guy im supposed to beat. Please help me out if you can. Thanks
JANA
Sean Kelly: I think you use a leaf and fly up to a pipe in the second (none block) room.
Kyle Orland: I used to know how to do this... something with the P-switch and running really fast, but I don't have it off the top of my head right now. Anyone else?
Jay Resop: I don't think I would be much help for helping you with this problem, so I'll instead tell you a story about my dog. Oh, nevermind.-jay
PenguinMan: I think there was a hidden door that you had to go
through while the switch was still active. For future
reference, GameFAQs is very useful...
EAM: I think this is the level you're talking about, but I'm doing this from memory. Enter the fort as either Raccoon Mario, Tanooki Mario, or with a P-Wing. Go through a door then travel left. Fly up above the second candle to a pipe and that should take you to BOOM BOOM.
Luigi128: It's been quite some time since i beat that game.
Though, now, i just usually use the flute to warp.
Beth Blakeslee: I don't know if it's just me, but I honestly don't remember this
level. A level with no enemies? Doesn't sound like a typical SMB3
level to me... (Of course, even though I'm quite a Mario fan, I
think I've only been to world 7 a few times (yay warp whistles that
get you to world 8), and it's been years since I played, so maybe I'm
forgetting something?)
Your page, http://www.smbhq.com/soda.htm, is the only one I could find about Mario Soda. I have a full set of 4-packs and don’t know anything about them. When were they produced? If they were produced by Shasta, where is their site information? Are they worth anything? If I had hair I’d be pulling it out!
- Tom Schenerman
Sean Kelly: Whatever you do, don't drink them (Mmmm 14 year old soda)
Kyle Orland: To tell you the truth, I don't know much more than what is available on that page. I vaguely remember seeing these in a store years ago, but I didn't see them again until finding this picture on eBay. The cans say Shasta, so I'm guessing they produced it. Their official web site is at http://www.shastapop.com/, so they might have more information. Good luck!
Jay Resop: Who sells soda in 4-packs?-jay
PenguinMan: What more information do you need about them? It's
soda, for crying out loud.
EAM: Why would you save soda for about ten years if you don't know anything about it? I doubt they would be worth much.
Luigi128: Wow, that's amaizing, and actually a little scary. If
you can find the right collector, they're probably
worth quite a bit.
Beth Blakeslee: Considering Yoshi's on one of the soda cans, I'm guessing probably
around the Super Mario World era. I can't seem to find a website for
Shasta, unfortunately, maybe the other guys'll have more luck. And as
long as they're not opened, I bet they'd be worth quite a bit. Maybe
check Ebay, see if there's any up there for auction, and see how much
they go for. (Or if you're willing to part with one of the packs, put
a set up on Ebay, and who knows- you could end up rich. I mean, look
at me- I spent $16 on Princess Toadstool wallpaper last week.)
i like making and designing things (eg game boxart) on the computer. i thought a section like boxart that could feature prosponed and fiction made boxart would encourage people to make boxart in a simple program like paint, along with some pictures.
i have many i could send if this was made, to start it off. please email me back your thoughts.
p.s. at the moment i send a one boxart to fiction games, but they dont repeat games and some boxart is about games that exist, just edit them and put them onto a new system (eg. super mario bros 3 on the gamecube).
thanks
popmanw
Sean Kelly: Fan Art?
Kyle Orland: I think this is a great idea... fan-made box art for classic Mario games. If you send it in, we'll put it up. Just make sure that it's all original work.. don't jsut cut and paste from real box art.
Jay Resop: Cool idea. Now just bug Sean and Kyle until they make the section. Heh.-jay
PenguinMan: Well, if they won't take it, try the Fan Art
section. I suppose it's the same thing.
EAM: I like the idea. If no one wants to make a new section for it, I could create it as a kind of sub section to game ideas.
Luigi128: Well, that sounds kind of interesting.
Beth Blakeslee: ...this letter made my head hurt. It just didn't make much sense to
my poor little head. Geez, I picked a great time to try out for the
Mailbag, eh?
Miyamoto's a fraud?! No, he's not. But one "apachearrow" over at the Snopes.com message boards is claiming that HE is the true creatore of Mairo, Luigi, Peach, the Mushroom Kingdom, etc. and that Nintendo stole his ideas. He states that Mario is based on a friend of his who died of cancer, and that he sketched the designs in the '70s to alleviate "mental problems" from his service in the Navy. But he doesn't want the money, no sir! He just wants everybody to know he was the true creator! No hopes for a huge cash settlement at all!

P.S. He posted a link to his web site, but it's broken now. I never got to see the "original" designs...
Sean Kelly: Most of those links are broken now. Though I doubt this story was true.
Kyle Orland: This is the first I've heard of it, but this is obviously a giant crock. I suspect the accuser here is mentally unbalanced and probably in need of some psychiatric help. Miyamato created Mario, as has been confirmed countless times by countless sources. Next!
Jay Resop: Don't make me tell a story about my dog.-jay
PenguinMan: Wow, some people... This is so absurd, I can't
think of anything witty to reply with.
EAM: There was also a guy online a couple years ago claiming to be from the year 2030.
Luigi128: You know, you really shouldn't believe everything you
read, man.
Beth Blakeslee: Personally, I think the guy's a fraud. I'm quite sure that Miayamoto
created all those trademark characters. (On a side note, the links to
the snopes message board topics sent me right to the main boards, not
the topics...)
I'm working on a website and I was wondering how can my site be hosted by SMBHQ?
- LatinTeen4U2C
Sean Kelly: Don't call us, we'll call you.
Kyle Orland: Sorry, we're not looknig to take on hosted sites at the moment. Once your site is up, though, we can consider giving you a link.
Jay Resop: A bribe would be nice. Either that or just suck up to me and tell me daily how awesome you think Neglected Mario Characters is. Although seriously, if you have a website and you want to be hosted, just write up a small proposal about what your site idea is and send it in to us.-jay
PenguinMan: Bribe Jay/Sean/Kyle with money. They only accept
Japanese yen, so it might be difficult if you don't
have easy access to that.
EAM: I'll let someone who knows answer this one.
Luigi128: Haven't we gotten mail from this one before? Anyways,
I don't think we do hosting.
(Editor's Note: Yes we do. On a limited basis)
Beth Blakeslee: I'm not the person you want to ask. I'm just the new girl.
Hello, My name is Ryan.I am half of a Paisano. Your site rocks!
- Ryan
Sean Kelly: Thank you.
Kyle Orland: Thank Ryan! What happened to the other half of the paisano?
Jay Resop: I hope you find the other half of your Paisano.-jay
PenguinMan: Technically, it's difficult for a website to "rock"
seeing as how it can't play music, but thanks anyway.
EAM: Great, thanks.
Luigi128: Well... Amen!
Beth Blakeslee: If by paisano you mean Italian, darnit, you're more Italian than I am.
I'm only a quarter Italian. And thanks for the compliment! Even
though it's not really my site. Again, I'm just the new girl. But I
agree, the site rocks.
Where can I find the collection of comics entitled Super Mario
Adaventures that ran in Nintendo Power from 1992-1993? If I can somehow
buy this from anywhere I will be eternally grateful!
- Juan C Spearman
Sean Kelly: You just answered your own questions. Look for issues of Nintendo Power from 1992-1993. Though I think there might be some sort of compilation book somewhere.
Kyle Orland: Jeez... good luck on that one. at one point, this was available through the Nintendo Super Power Club catalog, but that was way back in the early 90s. I was lucky enough to find a copy for $9 at a local Sears store at about the same time. I'd try scouring eBay or calling Nintendo. Or, if you have, say, $100, I might be willnig to part with my copy. Remember, I said I might.
Jay Resop: I refuse to say the name of a website that begins with "e" and ends with a word that rhymes with my name, since I know someone else is going to say it.-jay
PenguinMan: The magical world of eBay.
EAM: Try ebay.
Luigi128: You know, I actually have a copy of that that I bought
from Wal*Mart years back. It's actually pretty funny,
but it's just about torn to shreds by now. But
anyways, I'm not letting go of it. Anyways, you may
check eBay, that's our universal response to stuff
like that.
Beth Blakeslee: I'd say keep an eye out on Ebay. I think I've seen them on there
sometimes in my eternal quest for the weirdest Nintendo stuff.
Hi,
I would like to ask about the title of a certain Mario game. It's where Mario has a hammer and destroys the walls that are elevated and he needs to climb ladders to go to a specific plane/ floor. Then there are ghosts running after him throughout the game. Hope you get my description. :)
Thanks!
- Lei
Sean Kelly: Uhhhh......anyone else know?
Kyle Orland: This is Wrecking Crew.
Jay Resop: That game was Super Mario 64. I am 100% sure.-jay
PenguinMan: Doesn't sound like any Mario game I know of. Maybe
Hotel Mario on the ill-fated 3DO.
EAM: Some more information would be nice. For example, what system was it on? I'm thinking it's Donkey Kong, but I don't remember any ghosts.
Luigi128: That would be Donkey Kong, only I think those are
balls of fire, or something.
Beth Blakeslee: Uh, I think I missed this game. I remember the original Mario Bros.
game, where you got chased by fireballs occasionally, and sometimes
little Koopas, but never ghosts... and Mario didn't have a hammer in
that one. I think he had a hammer in Donkey Kong, and I know he had
one in Super Mario RPG... but the game you're talking about doesn't
ring a bell with me. Sorry.
Hi!
My friend wants Super Mario Bros games to play on her Playstation II.
Is that possible? If so, how can she do it? We would appreciate any
help you can give us.
Thanks so much,
Gail Sterling
Sean Kelly: Listen, Mario was created by Nintendo for exclusive use of Nintendo systems. You may be used to 3rd party series, such as Grand Theft Auto, appearing on multiple platforms, but that will never happen with Mario (or Zelda, Star Fox, and Metroid).
Kyle Orland: Not possible. Buy a Nintendo system like a GameCube or Game Boy Advance if you want a Mario game
Jay Resop: Step 1) Get a copy of Super Mario Bros.
Step 2) Get a Playsation 2.
Step 3) Get a very large hammer.
Step 4) Turn on the PS2, open the CD tray.
Step 5) Place the copy of SMB onto the tray.
Step 6) Swing the hammer very hard so that the SMB game becomes lodged into the PS2.
Step 7) Enjoy hours of SMB fun!-jay
PenguinMan: To play Super Mario Bros. games on the PS2, you
need to buy a Gamecube, put the game in the Gamecube,
and connect the Gamecube to the TV. It might not sound
like you're using the PS2, but that's why you put the
Gamecube on top of the PS2. That way you're playing
the game ON the PS2! Hope that helps.
(Editor's Note: Now THAT'S the way to answer the question)
EAM: Yes it is possible, but probably more trouble than it's worth. Depending on the system the game is for, you may or may not be able to find a good emulator for PS2. Once you have one you'll need to put it and a ROM of the game on a disk and probably mod the PS2 to get it running. That's just an overview from someone with no experience though.
Luigi128: Well, first of all, the PS2 is pretty evil. You see,
it was made by Sony. Nintendo was made by Nintendo.
So, in short, no. No. No...
Beth Blakeslee: Uh, that's not possible. At all. Unfortunately. Oh well. I'd
suggest to your friend to keep her eyes out for an old NES or Super
NES and some games for it, if she wants to play Mario games. (I heard
I'm getting a new old NES for my birthday, hooray for old Mario
games!)
