Here it is the first e-mail of the year.  Let's do it to it!

Hello,
I was just checking out your site (which is excellent, by the way),
and was looking through the Mario products.  Boy, did that take me
back!  I remember either seeing or having about 3/4 of the things on
that list.  Anyway, what I'm e-mailing for is I was curious if you
knew about how much the ceiling fan is worth nowadays.  I've had one
hanging in my room for the last probably 10 years or so, and it still
gets plenty of use today!  I'm not looking to sell it, as I couldn't
bare to part with it, I was just curious.  I also just recently found
the Acme Luigi plush.  I'd forgotten all about him!
I think that about does it.

Thank you very much!
Greg Fuller

Sean Kelly: I don't know this type of stuff.

Kyle Orland: A ceiling fan, eh. A quick Froogle search
(http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=ceiling%20fan%20&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-31,GGLD:en&sa=N&tab=if) shows prices for nice ceiling fans from between $50 and $200, roughly. This one isn't that nice, but it might have senitmental value. I'd say $100 is about right, if you find the right buyer.

Jay Resop:  I'd say a billion dollars.  Seriously though, it's hard to say.  I'm not sure how much demand there is for obscure Mario products.-jay

PenguinMan: I take it you're a real FAN of Mario, huh? Hahahahaha*gets shot*

EAM: You have a Mario fan?! That's cool. I have no clue how much it's worth.

Luigi128: Well, if you could find somebody obsessed enough with it, it could probably go for quite a bit... but I really have no idea what.

About 5 or 6 years ago, when i travelled to my cousins, who live in
Liverpool, England, and they had a new game console, the Panasonic CD-I, and
a various amount of games, one of which was Hotel Mario, a puzzle game which
required you to run, no jumping and collecting items which, when collected,
allow you to continue on to the next level. It was a difficult game, which
made it frustrating. It was lacked, and a boring a times. It wasn't a game
to fret over, it wasn't popular and not very good.

John McElroy

Sean Kelly:  This mailbag isn't usually the place to send reviews, but thanks anyway.

Kyle Orland: Um... correct?

Jay Resop:  Yeah, I remember hearing about this Hotel Mario game, but I don't know much about it.-jay

PenguinMan: Yeah, the "Nintendo" games that came out for the CD-i were pretty poor. Hotel Mario still isn't as bad as the Legend of Zelda games that came out for it though.

EAM: Not a question, but I have to say I'm sure that's not an offical Mario game.

Luigi128: It seems kind of interesting to me that one of the mini-games on Mario Party 5 is named "Hotel Goomba." Do you suppose there was any relation intended?

I was just wondering if you could tell me what mario game it is where there is
like a sand levels and pyramids and stuff...i remember playing it when i was
younger like 6 or 7 years ago and i can't remember what game it was, and also
what nintendo system is required to play it.

Sean Kelly: SMB2? SMB3? Super Mario 64?

Kyle Orland: Hmm, well it could be Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, or Super Mario 64. I don't think any other Mario games had desert levels. The first two are on the NES, or the SNES on the Super Mario All-Stars cart. Super Mario 64 is for the Nintendo 64. If I had to bet on which one it was, I would guess SMB2... that game was FULL of annoying desert levels.

Jay Resop:  Both Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 have sand and pyramid levels, I believe.  So it could be either one.-jay

PenguinMan: A lot of the Mario games had a desert/Egyptian themed level. SMB 2's were fairly interesting, since you had to do all that digging.

EAM: Sounds like Super Mario Bros. 3. You could play the original on the old Nintendo, the Mario Allstars version on Super Nintendo, or the Mario Advance version on Gameboy Advance. It's the best game ever made - have fun!

Luigi128: The only two games I can think of with Sand and Pyramids is Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario 64. They would both fit in the provided time frame.

hi,
i just downloaded the supermariobros 1 game ROM (i own the original
game) and played it on an emulator on my ibook.

it works well.  my question is...if i start the game cold the first
level i am on is "0-1"...it is an underwater level with no fish, and
about one or two of those man eating plant things
that  pop up from those pipes (know what i mean?)...you can swim
through the level in about 40 seconds, at which point there is a bride
and an ax, similar to the
4th level of each world......then it says sorry but our princess is in
another castle.

now, having played regular mario on my standard nes box  i am never
seen this..... and i was curious to know if any of you had encountered
the ZERO world (0-1).
or is it a bug in the porting of the rom do u think?

i just thought it was interesting. please reply either way.
thanks

patrick

Sean Kelly: I'm not answering this question, since I don't really support ROMs and Emulators (even though I'm guilty of downloading them).  That statement that it's OK to download a ROM if you already own it is complete nonsense.  I'll let the other guys answer your question.

Kyle Orland: Sounds like the rom you got is either corrupted or intentionally hacked. If you really own the original game, I'd encourage you to find a better ROM.

Jay Resop:  I'd say it's a ROM bug.-jay

PenguinMan: There is a 110% chance that the ROM is glitched.

EAM: It's either a bug or someone changed the ROM.

Luigi128: That's interesting...

hey, i was wondering...what mario version is it where you have mario 1
2 3 all in one?  There are even a few others on it I think too.  All I
know is that the original mario plus the second and third one is all
on there.  I'm trying to locate one, and I cant find it.

Any help you have woudl be great.

Thanks!

Casey

Sean Kelly: Super Mario Allstars for the SNES

Kyle Orland: That'd be Super Mario All-stars for the SNES. You can find it on eBay pretty easily, or in a secondhand game store if you're really lucky. I saw one recently for $20 at a Gamestop. Not bad for a game more than a decade old.

Jay Resop:  Super Mario All-stars, on SNES.-jay

PenguinMan: That would be Mario All-Stars for the SNES. You might be able to find it at a GameSpot or somewhere where they sell used SNES games.

EAM: Super Mario Allstars for Super Nintendo.

Luigi128: That would be Super Mario All-Stars (though somebody else probably already answered this by the time you reach my name). It contains the Super Mario Bros. Trilogy, as well as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels which was actually the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 (The American Super Mario Bros. 2 was a game in Japan that they used Mario characters for in order to gain popularity in the U.S.)

Dear SMBHQ: I would like to know where are Mario's TV show's, and what time do they start on the channel?
If you tell me, I'll be very happy. Because Nintendo already has TV show's for the following: Kirby, F1-zero, and Poke'mon.
And there still on TV  So I would really like to know.  OK I'll see you later "SMBHQ."

Sincerely, Vincent Stauffer

Sean Kelly: There's an F-Zero TV show?????  When did that happen?!?!?!?!?  Anyways the Mario Cartoons debuted in the late-80s and continued to about 1992 or 1993.  The original version - The Super Mario Bros Super Show - featured adventures using characters from the first 2 Mario games (they also threw in a Zelda cartoon on Fridays).  The future version focused on Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World respectively.  Also apparently the producers couldn't get the rights to (or probably didn't even have) the real names of the Koopa Kids, since they all had different names in the show.

Kyle Orland: I think you were born a few years too late to see the Mario TV shows live on TV. Check out the SMBHQ cartoons section for more information.

Jay Resop:  Finding Mario cartoons on TV is difficult, since I don't believe that any network is showing new episodes of them.  But you may find obscure networks that show old reruns.-jay

PenguinMan: As far as I know, they no longer show the old Mario cartoons, which is sad. If you have a fast internet connection though, I think you can watch a few on some service of Yahoo!'s.

(Edit By SK: That would be Yahooligans.  You see the cartoons there here.)

EAM: As far as I know, no Mario shows are currently on TV.

Luigi128: Well, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show was on in the eighties, but that's all I know. I never actually even saw one. I doubt they are on anymore..

Hi,

Its Daniel from http://www.rare-lyrics.com, lately I've been adding more information to our artist pages and I'm currently getting some quality mario links for our visitors. Anyway, I've added your site to our mario  page. I would be very grateful if you would link back to us at http://lyrics.rare-lyrics.com/M/Mario.html (Mario Lyrics). If you would like us to make any changes to your text link even if you decide not to link back or would like more linking information, please just reply and let us know.

Sean Kelly: Wrong Mario Fool!!!  Anyways, it seems that this website is no longer operational (or open to the public), since I was just asked for a password when I tried to get into the site.

Kyle Orland: For a while, I remember a search for "Mario" would bring up a bunch of Mario Lemiux sites before SMBHQ. Now, this lame singer named Mario is horning in on our name. Searchnig for "Super Mario" seems to eliminate him, though. As for the link, well, any publicity is good publicity, I guess.

Jay Resop:  Um..................ok?-jay

PenguinMan: Mario songs have lyrics? When did this happen?

(Edit By SK: It's all a misconception.)

EAM: I see no link. Liar.

Luigi128: Hmmm... I don't know if that site is worth linking to... we've got a links page that pretty much takes care of THAT purpose.

Hello my name is Paul. I am from Falfurrias, Texas. I have been a
Mario fan for as long as I can remember. Every Mario game that has
come out I own it or at least have beaten it somewhere else. I was
just wondering if maybe you'll know if maybe they will come out with a
game for the gamecube that will consist of all the mario's from the
first till mario 64 that could be playbale for the gamecube. Now a
days it seems like all the old games are coming back out for the retro
gamers like myself. I'm sure if nintendo came out with a game like
this they would make so much money out of it. Could you please email
me on any info that you have.

Thanks, Paul

Sean Kelly: It would be nice if Nintendo makes a new Super Mario Allstars.  But, with things like the Super Mario Advance and the NES Classics series for GBA, I doubt that will happen.

Kyle Orland: Such a mega-collection has been pondered by many for many years since the release of Super Mario All-stars. Unfortunately, I'd say it's unlikely in the current environment. With Nintendo releasing un-updated NES games on the GBA for $20 each -- and plenty of people buying them -- the chances of getting multiple games on one disc for a decent price seems low. Then again, the Zelda bonus disc offer did just that for Nintendo's other trademark series. Hmmmm.

Jay Resop:  Yeah, that would be awesome.  I'd buy that.  Write to Nintendo and beg them to make this.-jay

PenguinMan: While something like Mario All-Stars for the GC would be awesome, Nintendo's probably just going to re-release them on the GBA separately. They already have for the first 5 (SMB 1-3, and SMW 1-2), so...yeah.

EAM: Don't count on it - Nintendo isn't likely to release all the old games at once when they can sell them one at a time like they have been with the Mario Advance series.

Luigi128: Well, that certainly is a possibility, with Capcom releasing all of the Mega Man games on Gamecube, as well as Sega with their Sonic Collection. But it seems most of Nintendo's remakes are being put on the GBA, so it's probably not all that likely.

What would be really cool is if they were to make a new Mario Bros. sidescroller game for the gamecube with current graphics technology.

(Edit By SK: MegaMan Anniversary Collection is quite fun BTW, however, as much as I love the first 7 MegaMan games, I've grown to loathe MegaMan 8, which I can explain in 4 words: "JUMP, JUMP! SLIDE, SLIDE!")

Hello I have recently recieved a approximately 3 foot tall Mario
Statue from a video game store. The Mario was designed for the Super
Mario 64 version of mario. I have not been able to find any
information about this and am now relying on the SMBHQ for help to
assess it's value. Also this was provided to the store many years ago
from Nintendo, and now has been left in my possesion.

Thanks Now

Chris Robey

Sean Kelly: You know, right when the auctions page launched, a statue like the one you described was posted.  It was going for a few hundred dollars.

Kyle Orland: I'll give you $100 for it right now! No questions asked!

Seriously, these things are pretty hard to get a hold of, and a collector would probably pay a pretty penny for one. I've never seen one for sale, and I definitely know there's demand, so it's just a matter of finding a buyer

Now that I think about it... I'll give you $200 for it.

Jay Resop:  Like I was saying before, it's hard to price Mario products and stuff, since who knows what the demand is.  You could always put it up on Ebay and see what you get.-jay

PenguinMan: I'll give you $40 for it. Deal?

(Edit By SK: Compared with what Kyle offered, that's too darn cheap!)

EAM: Again I don't know how much stuff like this is worth, but I'd pay $20 for it.

(Edit By SK: THAT'S EVEN CHEAPER!!)

Luigi128: No Clue

(Edit By SK: Come on, you should be able to top eam's $20)

how do you get to the space zone in super mario land 2 for gameboy, i am stuck, i have all the other coins

Jason Butler

Sean Kelly: Don't have a GameBoy.

Kyle Orland: Kyle: Go to the weird hippo level in the upper left of the map and ride the bubble all the way to the end.

Jay Resop:  Press in the button combination - "A B A B Start Select Start Select A A A A A B B B B B Left A A A Right B B B A B A B Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Up Down Up".-jay

(Edit By SK: Don't listen to Jay.  Listen to Kyle instead.)

PenguinMan: WWW.GAMEFAQS.COM

EAM: Sorry, I don't remember and I can't even find a guide for the game.

Luigi128: You know, the Super Mario Bros. games are the only Mario games that I have not played yet. Sorry.

(Edit By SK: I presume you meant Super Mario Land.  Because, if you haven't played SMB, what are you doing here?)
