FOR THE DATE OF
April 18, 2003

Sean Kelly
Soon to be ex College Student

Happy Easter Weekend everyone.  Let's get onto the questions.

I recently bought a movie off EBAY. It is a VHS with the 'lost' Mario movie. It is a movie called Grand Mission To Rescue Princees Peach. It is an hour long cartoon pretty good to. I just thought u might want to know beacuase your movie guy won't accept my info

-Phantaz
I just saw your letter yesterday in the TMK Mailbag and I went to the site that you linked.  Well, it looks pretty  interesting and there could very well be chance that this movie exists.   However, seeing is believing.

In fact, I might make this the next Super Mario Mystery: The 'lost' Mario Movie: Fact or Fiction

Stay tuned for that.

I noticed a connection from Paper Mario and Kirby's Adventure (Or Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland if you have a Game Boy Advance). The only thing they both have in common is the Star Rod! Bowser stole it at the beginning of Paper Mario, and Kirby used the Star Rod at the end of Kirby's Adventure/ Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland. Who came up with using the Star Rod in two games? I'd sure like you to answer!

P.S., the Star Rod can also be used in Super Smash Bros./Melee as a weapon. Mario and Kirby also appear in the game!

Peg Jindra
The Star Rod, indeed debuted in Kirbys' Adventure for the NES.  The Star Rod then appeared as an item in Super Smash Bros, which was made by HAL, the company that made the Kirby games.  Finally, Paper Mario was, at least in the early stages, also made by HAL explaining the Star Rod's appearance in that game.

Hi you don't have a clue who i am but that i guess doesn't matter. The reason I mailed is because I have some of the SMB cartoon shows on my computor. I would send them to you but there's not enough space  capability on my Email service. So if you want me to post them Email me

I personally don't want them.  Maybe you could ask Jay or the Cartoon guy.

Dear to whom it may concern,
Do you know if there is any place where I could find notes for the super mario songs? If you find them please tell me.
                                             Sincerely,
                                             Matt
P.S. I would like the notes for FF7 if you have time.
TMK features both sheet music and guitar tabs for you to download.

As for FF7, you for yourself.  This is a MARIO site.

Hey guys,
I have a unique Mario item for sale. If you aren't interested maybe you could put me in touch with someone who is. I have an approx. 4 1/2 foot tall, plastic/resin Super Mario character on a 2'x 3' base (approx) I could provide photo.  It was a display from a retail store from a few years back. When the store remodeled this display was no longer needed. It weighs about 80 lbs and is in excellent condition. If you've heard of anything like it, or are interested let me know. It is in Pennsylvania.

Why don't you just post it on E-bay, I'm sure that will be much more secure.

I noticed that in the April 2003 issue of Nintendo Power, there were some Player's Poll Sweepstakes Gone Wrong. Only a couple of kids complained about the contest results when they won. I don't remember these prizes in the past contests:

Win 5,000 Super Mario Bros. NES game paks! (They couldn't even get to their bedroom, or the bathroom, or even their feet!)

Spend a week at Nintendo Language camp! (It was BORING and got a ton of homework each night!)

Sail the seas in your own The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker! (They were on a raft and got lost, had a little brother get kidnapped by pirates and the kid's dad had to pay for his safe return!)

Clean up graffiti, Super Mario Sunshine style! (They had to clean the garage…WITH ONLY A STUPID SPONGE AND MOP! They didn't get that cool-looking FLUDD from the game, and the kid's little brother lost sight from the fumes!)

Spend a weekend with NOA Chris! (Chris kept insulting the kids and ordered them to cleans his bedroom…WITH A TOOTHBRUSH!

Are these winning prizes real, or are they just for April Fool's Day?

Peg Jindra
From looks of it, they were for April Fools.

My roomate holds what we think is a record of beating the original mario on nintendo in 6 mins and 28 seconds.  I was wondering if there was any way of finding if there is an actual record for this.  If not, is there any way of getting status?  Thanks for your time and i hope to hear form you soon.
josh gruner
Well, I checked the Guinness World Records site and there is no record for beating SMB.  Sorry.

BTW, the SMB series DOES have the record for selling the most copies.

Amendment(4/21/03): Kyle Orland (you know the guy who created SMBhq) just sent me the following e-mail:
Hey Sean. Just looked over the latest mailbag. What are you doing checking
Guiness for video game records? The authority for all sorts of video game
records is Twin Galazies (www.twingalaxies.com). You can find the record
for fastest SMB completion time here.

It seems the 6:28 is about a minute too slow for the world record.
Incidentally, there is no record yet for the fastest completion of Super
Mario 64. Unofficially, I've done it in about 2 and a half hours. Maybe
I'll refine my method and send in a tape. Happy trails.

-Kyle Orland

Dear SMBHQ mailbag dudes,

Is there any news on if this new Mario project that is being worked on has the "mature" Mario that was supposed to be in Super Mario Sunshine.

Also, do you know what the Super Mario Bros. DVD (June 30) will have for extra features?

-Phantaz
Everybody is making a big deal about this "mature" Mario Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned once in an interview.

This probably means, thay Mr Miyamoto is trying to get Mario out of the cartoonish worlds he has been in for years.  However, don't expect a huge change.  It is impossible to totally change Mario's image without killing EVERYTHING that made SMB the series it is.  Go play Conker's Bad Fur Day and leave this subject alone.

As for the DVD, I done some searching and found this:
DVD Features:

Region 1
Keep Case
Interactive Features:
Scene Access
Interactive Menus

This is what you can a "barebones" DVD.  As a result, the answer is no.

To Mario,

Hey, Mario! I'm one of your biggest fans! I try to get anything I can get that has you on it! I found out about you on my seventh birthday, and ever since you've been my hero!

From,
Zach
