Poking you in the behind

I'm a blue/aqua Bezzo, actually. Sorry this mailbag was kinda late, there was a bit of confusion with the sorting... in self-promotion news, my site is in the process of being 'revised'...

are you making any new super mario games?
- JJtatterBug
Why, sure! I'd love to... how does SMB4 sound? DELAYED APRIL FOOLS! I personally, or anyone else at SMBHQ for that matter,do not make these games. They might make illegal hacks, but not the actual games. Of course, if you were talking about Nintendo, then 'yes', as they just released a game last year called Super Mario Sunshine. But you probbably already knew that.

SK Note: However, I am studying to be a computer programmer. :P

Everyone in the universe knows by now that the way to beat Bowser in Mario 3 is to let him crash through the floor, right? It's easy. We've all done it three zillion times. But we've also noticed that it IS possible to bounce off his head, and suspected that it hurts him when you do so. In a spirit of investigation, and of not wanting to let the coolest item in the game go to waste, I went for Bowser with a Hammer suit. I made it through the castle intact, no problem, and began pumping hammers into his head. The trajectory of a hammer is great for this sort of thing - you stand in front of him and keep firing, and every one of them hits; you just have to dodge his fireballs every few seconds. After far too many hammers had been delivered to his thick skull, Bowser took the hint, turned upside down and fell off the screen with the traditional 'pwoo' noise from SMB1. And the door opens to the Princess. JOY! Alas, this was done on a real NES, so I don't have a Nesticle save state or movie to prove my outlandish claim... :-( Since then I've attempted to take him down with fireballs and by jumping on him; however, fireballs require me to get above him, and the sweet spot for jumping on him is too small to hit reliably, so I haven't ever managed it.
-Anthony Winters
Well, I've never played SMB3 (ducks under barrage of angry mob), since I'm pretty new to the Mario universe (at least compared to Jay). That does sound pretty cool, though. Keep trying, I'm sure you'll nail Bowser with those fireballs sometime!

SK Note: I, on the other hand, already knew that you can beat Bowser with hammers.

Hi. While looking in your TAOSMB3 section, I noticed a translation section, with japanese names. Does this mean that TAOSMB3 was dubbed in Japanese? I would really aprieciate a response!

- Geoff Kyle

*confused* TAOSMB3? *searches site* Oh, you mean the show. Yeah, it would seem logical that it was dubbed/reanimated for the US/Canada, but I'm not too sure...
Its about the SS quest. I want to join and all,but does the IRC cilent cost money and how do I start??? Please Re-direct this if needed.

- Brad Scott

I don't think IRC costs anything (heck, I think Microsoft Chat can connect to it). Besides that, I know nothing.

SK Note: MIRC is basically free, however it keeps asking you to register. (The same with our Java Client)

Thanks. Did you knew that David Dauton from TMK called me "Brazilian Miss"? And that Deezer also likes Paper Mario as me? How to beat Paper Mario, you ask? Well, you go to Gamefaqs.com and go to the Nintendo 64 version. In the top 10 FAQ pages, find Paper Mario and click on it. In there you find lots of General and In-depth FAQs. Click on the second general FAQ and voilá, there is where the whole walkthrough is. But you must use it on one Paper Mario file. On the second one, you only explore Toad Town and other places after fighthing Bowser for the last time. And the last Recreios, who only appear here in Brazil, appeared two last games: One I forgot to put in the January 4th mailbag and other in this. The one I forgot is Dr. Mario 64 and the other is Game and Watch Gallery 4. I wish I had a Gamecube to play Mario Party 4, Super Mario Sunshine and other Mario games to see his and the other guys' new faces. See you next time!

Annie B.

Yes, I'm a frequent visitor to GameFAQs (my site even has little hints of the site in it). Oh, and Game and Watch Gallery 4 ROCKS, mainly because it has my favorite character in it (no, not Mario, Mr. Game and Watch!).

SK Note: I believe I read that issue of the TMK mailbag (in fact I read all of them)

This is Super Mario War, a homebrewn ROM I found a while ago. It plays like Buster Bros, an arcade game in which the object was to shoot bouncing bubbles, splitting them into smaller ones until they were destroyed completely. In this game, the bubbles have been replaced with a mass of what appear to be Famicom game cartridges, and Mario is shooting them with a rifle that fires Bullet Bills. Also, the levels are absolutely HIDEOUS! They're garishly colored scenes blatantly stirring up the claims that Super Mario Bros. was inspired by mind-altering drugs. Not only is it not funny, but it makes it hard to see the sprites. It's worth playing only as a novelty.
-The West Virginian
I'm not into ROMs, as they're illegal, but yes, that sounds rather demented.

Note to People from SK: DON'T SEND IN ANYMORE ROMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son has Super Mario Land game for his gameboy. The gameboy and game were given to him so we have no directions. We have a level that we cannot figure out how to get past (level 4-3) can you help???

Are there any other reports of killing Bowser by unconventional means?
- mackenzie

YES!!! FINALLY! A question I can answer! Wait... Bowser? We're talking about SML, here, right? Anyway, just try you're hardest. Pressing A or B will shoot for you, the screen automaticly scrolls, and you can't jump (you can press up to fly upward). I never really got past the boss at the end (at least without my used-to-be trusty Codebreaker), so just practice.

If you want to know how to kill Bowser by unconventional means, then try reading a previous letter (above).

Yo, I heard that in Japan, there is a animated Mario movie called "The Journey for Peach" or something like that. Why wasn't it never released

- Ann H Reed-Speer

Sound either like a illegal use of licencse, Japan-exclusive thing (like Mew from Pokemon), a rumor, or perhaps a Japaneese version of the SMB Movie over here.
1.Hey, I figured this would fit under normal mail then a game idea. Anyways, using Rpg maker 2000 you could make a mario game. It would be easy to do a Mario Rpg style game, buy I managed to do a 2-d mario game with it. Its only a small part of a larger humor based game me and my friend have been working on, but it proves it works. Your the mario expert, so if you want to give it a try, download Rpg Maker 2000 and get some mario chipsets/music/charsets. I think people would appreciate a mario game, and if you get good at using it/can write good plot, you can make some pretty nice games. If anyone cares, I'll write again when the games done. Who knows, if enough people make games, maybe a rpg maker section could be in the future. (nothing illegal about it, unlike roms)

2.Also, in the "hall of shame" game ideas area, I'm pretty sure most of the people were being sarcastic. Except for the ones with alot of typos, that would be stupid people. in America?

- Greg Imler

1. Eh, that sounds like a good idea, but where am I going to find Sprite Sheets? *Sprite Sheet manager of SMBHQ coughs loudly* Holy cow! That section's still there?!

2. You never know how many lower-than-your-IQ people there are in the world...

Trying to locate a store or internet site where I can purchase them. Have searched sites but they are not selling them. I don't have the patiences to wait for ebay. Please help! Thank you.
Sincerely, W. Powell
Well, it depends what 'them' are. If it's something fairly new (ex. Mario plush toys) then check Nintendo Power or maybe (if you didn't see it) Nintendo.com's store. If it's something pretty old, check Funcoland or any convenience stores around you (you never know; I found Sonic the Hedgehog videos there.). I hope that helps.
