Well it is now time for the very first edition of the mailbag.  Let's get started:

Why does the Princess switch the color of her hair AND her name all the time?
- rooberband
Okay.  First of all here is what the "About Mario" page on SMBhq page says:

The princess' name is Princess Peach Toadstool. The first name is Peach and the last name is Toadstool. That is why she is called Princess Peach in Japan and the letter at the beginning of SM64 is signed "Peach".

Princess Peach isn't the only princess Mario has saved. In Super Mario Land, (and the Mario Movie, andthe comics) Mario saved Princess Daisy instead. In DOnkey Kong, that instead Peach either. It's auline, a damsel in the stress taken captive by Donkey Kong. Mario's exact relationships with these three women is sketchy at best... but Mario seems to especially like Peach (and she baked him that cake at the end of SM64... so bonus points!)

Also I think that Peach had dark hair in the NES games was mainly due colour limitations for the NES.  Most promotional art for Peach shown her with blond hair.  Finally I believe the official Nintendo colours are now Peach with light hair and Daisy with dark hair.

hi, erhm...nice site? I guess... tell Mario that he's cool.
- Massimiliano
hi, erhm...Thanks!  And Mario says thanks too :P

Do you think, after Nintendo has used up their oldies as remakes for GBA, they will create some true sequels on the system? For instance, another sidescrolling Mario or Yoshi platformer? Or, now that Square is back, a true sequel to Mario RPG, instead of a game like Paper Mario which wasn't really a sequel just a new RPG?
- VinTernet2000
I think we will see an original Mario game for GBA soon enough(who knows.  Maybe Nintendo has one secretly in development).  As for an acutal SMRPG sequel: Who knows?  It would be nice to see Mallow and Geno again though....

First off why has Super Mario Bros. HQ been so deserted lately. There have been no updates in a long time. Now my real question about Mario is. Why did Japanese game designers want to make an American video game charecter. And why wasn't the Super Mario Bros. movie made in Japan?
- Phantaz hi
Easy answer about to updates: We All Have A Life(well at least that's my reason)

Ask Shigeru Miyamato why he decided to make an Animated Video game character because I don't know.

Finally, because most movies that come out here are made here(even though I do agree that the SMB movie was a little too "futuristic" for it's own good).

As impressive as all the new video game systems are, I still long to play NES's Super Mario  Brothers I, II, and III.  I can't find an NES system anywhere through friends or stores or anything.  I was told me Toys R Us that I could play the original games on my computer by finding the sites online and downloading their info.  BUt all the sites I have found don't seem to be "active" anymore.. meaning that none of the info is accessible.  All I want is to play Super Mario Brothers, whether it be on an NES or my computer.  Please help me find out where I can get access to these games.
- Keri Jackson
Are you sure Toy R Us told you that?  Because emulation is ILLEGAL.  You can a lot of info on this situation straight from Nintendo by going to the following URL: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/faqs/legal.html

If you really want to find NES games Nintendo has some suggestions by going to the following URL:  http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/retail/index.jsp#oldproduct

Also make sure to try E-Bay

You have a great page going here!  Keep up the great work!

But the real reason I am emailing you is because the links to your Mario toys in your SMBHQ Store are broken.  And that really upset me because when saw that a Bowser talking plushie existed I almost let out a yelp in excitment!  I admit, I am a huge Bowser fan (too much actually) and this would of been my opprotunity to get in on some sexy Bowser merchandise!  Anyway, I tried express.com and now all they sell are DVDs.  I tried looking on google but to no avail.  Do you know of any other places that might sell him?

Thanks for your time ^_^

- Sara

THANKS!!!  However I have to admit that that comment was in vain since I hardly do anything with the site.

As for the store, I did some looking around and saw that that you probably went to the OLD SMBhq store linked to from the hardly ever updated, text-links page.  To my knowledge the current SMBhq store now only sells T-Shirts.

As for finding the Bowser Plushie, I believe all you can do right now is check E-bay.

Bowser's son (Bowser Jr.) is in the Shadow Mario costume in SMS. How does this fit in with the Koopa Kids from SMB3, SMW, SMAS, YSafari, and SMA2? Is he the eighth kid? What happened to the other 7? While we're on the subject, what are the Baby Bowsers in MP 1-4? Are they clones? Hey! This would make a great Mario Mystery!
- Ajtexas22
First THANK'S FOR GIVING AWAY THE ENDING OF SMS!!!!!!(J/K)

Anyways I agree it would make a good Mario Mystery.  I will keep it in mind and let the people decide.

1. How long is it gonna take for the Super Mario Sunshine Bundle to arrive in the mail? It's already been a week (as of September 1st, 2002) and it promises "two-day shipping"!

2. What would you think of a voting tournament of 128 cartoon characters on the site? I've had many tests at different places, obviously using trial-and-error, and here I am, at Super Mario Bros. Headquarters.
- DrRobotnik2001

1.  If you don't have it by now, please ask Nintendo because I, nor anyone else here knows.

2.  I will mention this to Jay

Now that Square's come back to the dark side, ya think SMRPG for GBA might be a possibility?

Oh yeah...and what do you think happened to Exor after they beat Smithy? Is the answer painfully obvious, with me not "getting it" due to the fact that it is impossible to watch the ending and the TV at the same time?
- GeneralShyGuy

We might see SMRPG on GBA(but don't quote me on that)

Also wasn't Exor defeated before Smithy?  I guess his remains just disintegrated.

I am stuck in the forest of illusions, I have went thru all the other lands but cannot get to the castle. Can anyone tell me how to get there.
- Jeanie
You are in the wrong area.
