Brotherly Love

By Sky Princess

Part One: Luigi

I'm Luigi... you know... Yeah, Mario's brother. That's what I'm often called....

Being the younger sibling of a hotshot is one of the hardest things in the world. Even though I'm only 5 minutes younger than him, I still get treated in the same way. What's worse, our last name is Mario. So even in my own name I am outdone by that brother of mine.

As a kid, Mario was the favorite. I don't know why. Maybe because he always cleaned his plate when Mama cooked lasagna, when I barely touched it. Or maybe because I was too tall to wear my brother's hand-me-downs...I dunno. Did she have something against me? I'm...sure she didn't, but at the same time I feel like she loved Mario more....

Mario was the popular one. Always outgoing, the one with the girlfriend, having parties, pulling stunts...sometimes I wished like heck we could trade places for one day...just to see what it was like to have that kind of fun, and to have someone, like Pauline, who really liked me.

When Mario got into what I call the "Hero Biz", he became even more popular. Of course when we showed up in the Mushroom Kingdom, he DID ask for my help, which surprised me. After all, this was his greatest mission, and though we had fought against some weird creatures in the pipes once, I was surprised that he'd want my help for this one.

When I met Princess Peach Toadstool, I fell in love. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She was sweet, kind, honest, and a good person. But as the years and adventures flew by, she grew closer and closer to Mario. Of course, I wasn't surprised. I saw them sneak a kiss in the castle kitchen once, and my heart was broken. I wasn't sure what to do. Mario had felt heartache before, and was now practically immune to it. I, however, had lived a mostly solitary life, and had never known LOVE, let alone heartbreak.

But a year ago, Mario introduced me to Peach's cousin, Princess Daisy, whom he had rescued from Tatanga quite a few years ago. At first, I wished for her to remain only at arm's length, but after I got to know her I fell deeply in love...more in love than I was with Peach. Daisy and I found many things in common. She, like me, was shy, and we had both spent a lot of time alone. After about 9 months, we realized that we needed each other....and I asked her to marry me.

Mario had stolen the spotlight, but who cares? Thanks to him, I managed to steal Daisy's heart.

Part Two: Mario

It's-a me, Mario! Stay back! Stay back! No autographs, please!

Do you have any idea how much I envy Luigi sometimes? No Press Meetings, no autographs to sign, no kingdoms to save every 5 minutes? Sounds like a great life to me.

Luigi was DEFINITELY Mama's favorite. He was always neat and tidy; he always did his homework; he got the honor roll in all of his Elementary, Junior High, and High School classes. He could have become a doctor if he wanted to...why he became a plumber is beyond me...

Yeah, I was pretty popular. Too popular. Sometimes I got in with the wrong crowd. I did some things that I shouldn't have. Those things haunt me to this day. I had plenty of girlfriends in my teenage years, but the belle of them all was Pauline. She was a beautiful, sweet, adorable woman that I fell in love with. She was, in truth, my first love. We were Sweethearts all through Junior High and High School, and when we got older I rescued her from that escaped gorilla, Donkey Kong (Cranky Kong). She called me "her hero" and told me that she loved me....but it was a lie. The next month, I received a letter saying she was leaving Brooklyn and that I'd never see her again. My heart was broken, but my little brother was there to cheer me up.

When we showed up at the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi helped me out. He actually proved to be a bigger help than expected. As the adventures flew by, it became more and more obvious that Luigi was in love with Peach. But I began to grow fond of her as well, and was totally confused with what to I remained silent. But one day, after a long celebration of the "Power Star" Victory, Peach asked me to speak with her privately in the kitchen. There, she told me that she was falling in love with me. I, not knowing what to say, only managed to tell her that I felt the same way. But then she kissed me....not on the cheek or on the nose or on the forehead...but she kissed me on the lips for the first time. During the kiss, I heard a shuffling sound. I knew...I KNEW it was Luigi...and I knew his heart was broken.

About a year ago, I received a Christmas Card from Princess Daisy of Sarasaland. Suddenly it hit me. Luigi was a shy young guy who spends lots of time alone. Daisy was a shy young princess who lives in isolation. DUH! Why hadn't I thought of this before?! A few days later, I had Peach invite Daisy to her castle, so that she could meet Luigi. They started talking...then BINGO... they were interested.

As they got to know each other, they fell in love, just as I had planned. They're now making plans to be married. My little bro...what a guy.
